Position Overview:

As part of StepStone’s Portfolio Management team, the Analyst will analyze data, test and implement models, and produce output that can be used internally and externally across the firm. The role focuses on liquidity modeling and management. The associate will work with the data team to get, clean and understand the available fields; they will suggest models that are relevant for the available data and communicate the assumptions and complexities of the model to partners within the firm; they will fit and select a model and assess goodness of fit. Lastly, they will work with our web development team to engineer tools that can be used internally by our research team and externally by our clients. This position requires the ability to present information simply and effectively to internal and external parties. This is the perfect opportunity for a driven, curious researcher to see their ideas developed into cutting-edge products.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Data retrieval and wrangling using MySQL, Python and PowerBI.
  • Model building and analysis using built-in functions and models developed from scratch in Python.
  • Deploying models using a Django API in collaboration with the web development group.
  • Communicating the output of models to senior management, including assumptions and limitations.
  • Convincing investment professionals in the firm of the merits of the models and analyses.
  • Independent and efficient working style: ability to develop big picture ideas, and translate them into code and actionable model output.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Econometrics or a related field. Exceptional candidates with an undergraduate degree will also be considered.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of statistical model building and data analysis; numerical algorithms expertise a plus.
  • Strong background in Python; will also consider candidates with experience in SAS, R or Matlab.
  • MySQL or other database expertise.
  • Knowledge of investments and/or private markets; deep knowledge of financial instruments and Bloomberg a strong advantage.
  • Extremely strong attention to detail to maintain code and data integrity.
  • Positive attitude and strong team collaboration.

 

Salary Range $90,000 - $115,000

The salary range is an estimate of pay for this position.  Actual pay may vary depending on job-related factors that can include location, education, skill, and experience.  The salary range does not include any benefits or other forms of possible compensation that may be available to employees.
