Our Opportunity:  

Chewy is looking for Automated Maintenance Technician III at our Jessup, PA Fulfillment Center! You will have the opportunity to apply your valuable experience to support the fast-paced operations of our fulfillment center. Additionally, we will support you in developing new and valuable skills and experience in the growing world of e-commerce fulfillment operations! This position handles a wide variety of facilities, maintenance, and utilities requirements.   

Shift: 4:30am-3pm, Wed-Sat 

What you'll do:  

In this position, you will assist in the maintenance and repair of automated material handling equipment and ensure high equipment availability rates. You will use preventive and Reliability Centered Maintenance processes, and quickly fix equipment breakdowns and rapidly restore equipment to support a successful operation. You will work directly with other technicians to address problems and leaders to optimize equipment and meet time limitations. You will collaborate with direct peers and Control Systems Engineers to perform root cause analysis for all equipment failures.   

Successful candidates in this role will:  

  • Maintain and fix all electrical and mechanical aspects of equipment, including conveyor systems, sortation systems, carton rectors, print and apply, compactors/balers, motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, encoders, etc.  
  • Adjust scanners, cameras, scales, and printer applicators (PANDA)  
  • Reset, repair, or replace adjustable components (belts, chains, cables) and wearing components (guides, bearings, wheels, rollers, pulleys)  
  • Clean, lubricate, and calibrate equipment  
  • Use appropriate job plans, procedures, and manuals  
  • Assist with basic electronics/ Programmable Logic Controls resolving 
  • Use handheld devices or desktop PC to build and close Work Orders with appropriate data (labor hours, downtime, problem/cause/remedy, and parts used)  
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organization  
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while maintaining equipment (Lock Out/Tag Out, Arc Flash, etc.), and ensure a safe work environment by eliminating potential equipment safety hazards  

What you’ll need:  

Physical Demands (with or without reasonable accommodation):  

  • Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching both below the waist and above the head  
  • Walking within and around the site with excellent frequency (Up and down flights of stairs).  
  • Climb ladders safely and without limitation, and work off platforms and equipment at significant heights  
  • Full manual dexterity in both hands and wrists, eye/hand coordination, feet (foot pedals), manual (picking, pinching, holding, grasping), and wrist motion (repetitive flexion/rotation)  
  • Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and or uneven surfaces  
  • Ability to stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours  

Qualifications:  

  • PC proficiency and ability to use handheld devices  
  • Familiar with wiring diagrams, symbols, and electrical measuring  
  • Work order management  
  • Preventive/predictive maintenance procedures  
  • Basic blueprint and schematic reading, metal fabrication and welding, understanding of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) programs 
  • Ability to resolve basic Input/Output functions  
  • High school diploma or equivalent required  

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Degree from a vocational school or college with a focus in the Mechanical or Electrical field, or equivalent 3-5 years hands on previous experience in related field.  
  • Experience with automated conveyor systems and controls
