SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

AVIONICS SYSTEMS ENGINEER (DRAGON)

As an Avionics Engineer supporting Dragon, you will have the unique opportunity to work with a cross functional team of engineers that consolidates execution between vehicle analysis, design, and production extending through vehicle system verification and space operations. You will be equally anchored in all disciplines giving you the ability to spearhead change at the inception of product development, through production, to vehicle system validation.

Your creativity and relentless commitment to quality will be exercised to create, analyze, and maintain systems designs, define and improve processes, and develop vehicle validation techniques in order to ultimately build a state-of-the-art and fully reusable space launch vehicle system capable of safely and reliably carrying crew and payloads. You will also put your engineering knowledge to the test by performing real-time troubleshooting on the vehicle as it goes from the integration phase through mission operations. Our fundamental goal is to allow humanity to explore the stars; with it comes the extreme responsibility of ensuring the safety of the crew and payload.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for computing, power, instrumentation, and radio frequency (RF) communications consisting of system level performance and component hardware ownership
  • Develop, execute, and analyze the avionics system testing on flight hardware at the integrated level to validate the as-built vehicle is “go for launch” and root cause issues that require in-depth investigations across vehicle hardware systems
  • Support build and capsule maintenance through troubleshooting build problems and work to simplify and streamline recurring work to enable a higher launch cadence with higher reliability and lower labor hours per mission
  • Support mission operations by providing real-time input during flight, completing data reviews and monitoring system performance, and working with partners to simplify operation of systems
  • Work collaboratively with other teams and customers to define the scope of development projects and initial product requirements as new designs move from concept, through prototype, and into production
  • Define acceptance testing and qualification requirements of new and existing hardware, perform development and qualification testing to prove out design, and formally document test results
