Connectivity Systems Engineer (m/f/d)
We are seeking a Connectivity Systems Engineer to develop next-generation Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) – Terrestrial Network (TN) edge devices with AI-driven predictive network switching and software-defined networking (SDN) architectures. The role focuses on designing and optimizing intelligent telematics solutions enabling seamless connectivity across satellite, cellular, and other terrestrial networks for land mobility applications.You will report directly to the CTO, working cross-functionally across the technical and commercial teams exercising fluency with network protocols and edge computing frameworks complemented by developing AI-driven predictive switching and routing algorithms supporting UNIO’s technical execution of exceptional customer experiences.You will:
- Design, develop and deploy a telematics edge device integrating NTN-TN connectivity;
- Implement AI/ML/DNN/CNN models enabling intelligent network selection, predictive handovers and adaptive bandwidth management;
- Develop software-defined network (SDN) enabled architectures for dynamic traffic routing and efficient resource allocation in hybrid NTN-TN environments;
- Work with 4G, 5G, LTE, LEO/MEO/GEO satellite networks and other communication technologies building seamless, high-availability, ubiquitous systems for the land mobility market(s);
- Ensure low latency, high throughput and optimal power efficiency for telematics edge devices;
- Work closely with hardware, software and AI teams while maintaining detailed technical documentation;
- Gather and prioritize customer and external stakeholder feedback enhancing product features and performance and end-to-end product usability;
- Define, in close collaboration with UNIO’s commercial team, key benefits and end- to-end value of the product(s), translating customer requirements into development applications supported by customer user experience excitement and dovetailing these data points back into the product(s) continuing evolution:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all topics related to UNIO’s AI algorithm development and deployment across our customer ecosystem while ensuring stakeholder alignment on objectives, timelines and deliverables;
- Monitor product performance and iterate, with the direct support of the development teams, enhancements and future evolutions based upon data-driven insights.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunication Systems or related fields;
- 5+ years’ experience in telematics, networking or edge computing within the aerospace or automotive sector;
- Strong expertise in wireless communications (4G/5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, Satellite)
- SDN, AI/ML-driven networking and AI-specific tooling (i.e., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Ray RLlib);
- Hands-on experience with network protocols, routing algorithms and edge computing frameworks;
- Proficiency in Python, C++ and other embedded software languages for AI/SDN development;
- Experience with IoT/embedded systems, edge AI and cloud-based telematics solutions;
- Demonstrable experience in project planning, Agile/Scrum methodologies and workflows,
- Knowledge with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Outline, GitHub, Microsoft Suite;
- Knowledge of underlying technology stack, APIs, and end-to-end architectural components
- Strong communication and presentation skills;
- Demonstrable success collaborating with diverse stakeholders ensuring product alignment;
- Solid ability to handle ambiguity in a fast-paced environment;
- Fluent in English (German would be a plus);
- Currently based in Munich (or soon to be relocating to).
