This position will play a crucial role in managing customs operations for import to Germany, France, Italy and other European countries as well as export from the European Union. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of customs regulations and procedures, with proficiency in English.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate customs clearance activities for imports/exports.
  • Prepare and submit customs documentation, including import/export declarations, invoices, and certificates of origin.
  • Communicate with customs authorities and freight forwarders to resolve any issues or discrepancies that may arise during the clearance process.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs regulations and procedures
  • Provide guidance and support to internal departments on customs-related matters, including tariff classifications, duty rates, and trade agreements.
  • Collaborate with the logistics team to optimize shipping routes and transportation methods to minimize customs delays and costs.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of customs compliance programs and procedures.
  • Conduct periodic audits and reviews of customs documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor changes in customs regulations and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the company's overall import/export operations as needed.

A successful candidate:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in customs operations (import/export experience with EU countries is a strong advantage).
  • Ability to accurately assign HS codes and customs item descriptions for imported and exported goods is a must.
  • Interpret and apply incoterms appropriately to determine the responsibilities and liabilities of buyers and sellers in international trade transactions.
  • Prepare and review customs documentation, including import/export declarations, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
  • Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of customs regulations and procedures.
  • Experience working with customs authorities, freight forwarders, and other external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and promoting a culture of compliance within the customs operations department.
