  • The Performance and Insight team exists to provide greater understanding of our operational performance, improve the accuracy and accessibility of data, and adapt quickly to our changing operational and technical environment. We handle complex and challenging issues and projects, embed a culture of continuous improvement, and enable the business’ strategic transformation.
  • Through great Data Governance -we make it easier to find and understand our performance data by implementing great data governance ensuring that data is managed systematically so it can be used efficiently, securely, and is accessible to those who need it.
  • Easier to understand performance data - we create simple to understand MI against a set of visual standards, we work with each part of our business to educate our teams on how to spend the least amount of time finding the data vs investing their time in making the right decisions based on what the data tell us
  • Understanding the work - we have a complex business and we architect MI to bring to light how we perform end-to-end showing what are the key drivers of work and where bottlenecks exist in the system.
  • Innovation and collaboration - as well as making sure we create the best MI today we are looking forward to tomorrow to look at new ways to automate our reporting and embed AI as a way to help our stakeholders identify where their focus should be

This role in a nutshell:

An exciting opportunity in this new role you’ll be supporting teams across Enterprise MI in defining and rolling out standards covering the data we use, ensuring we access and use our data to drive insight and decision making though great governance and stewardship processes.  You’ll support understanding what data answers our questions and helping ensure great lineage, quality and ownership is in place. You'll be working as a key link between our analysts and product engineers to ensure sources of data are created and managed. 

Extremely exciting opportunity to work across a major, progressive utilities business building up a network of allies to identify the gold standards in our data. A chance to take a proactive role on improving the ways we work with and ingest data within Operations. Within this role you will get to marry your skills in analytics and data management to drive solutions to our biggest data and insight gaps and problems, creating best in class service for our customers.

Your key outputs will be:

  • Determines how Operations collects and processes existing data, creates processes that allow stakeholders to interact with the data aligned to established OVO frameworks.
  • Sets standards for visualisation for MI for the best consistent user experience
  • Manages the processes that measure analytics and data maturity across the team, relating to the OVO data toolset.
  • Work with product engineers and data teams to understand data models and flows so we can make best use of data and get key data requirements delivered as part of product requirements
  • Helping create processes for how to collect data, how to store and share between tools within Opera
  • Support our data analysts to ensure standards are met for maintaining DataHub, Github and Dataform
  • Work with teams across Operations to migrate data into Dataform and a single Google BigQuery instance
  • Embed a sense of ownership and excellence for data across Operation supporting regular sessions as the technical expert for the team to drive adoption and engagement
  • Identify the most pressing data problems to focus on, and support data owners and producers to find the best ways to resolve these
  • Investigate and if needed look to utilise Monte Carlo for data monitoring and alerting
  • Connect with wider teams across the organisation to support Enterprise wide mindset 
  • Engaging with the wider business and analytics community to understand then support data enablement in the team.
  • Seeking best practice in the management and enablement of data to help inform next steps in our journey.
  • Supporting our teams and their data needs and producing your own insight
  • Identify ways we can improve our data sets and creating plans to deliver these
  • Ownership of Acryl DataHub for Enterprise MI working with the teams to ensure records are updated and accurate
  • Work with product engineers and data teams to understand data models and flows so we can make best use of data and get key data requirements delivered as part of product requirements
  • Ensure all knowledge is available, well documented and shared across Enterprise MI
  • Embed a sense of ownership and excellence for data across the team holding regular sessions on the subject to drive engagement
  • Define  methods of measuring the compliance of data with best practice
  • Take an iterative approach to rolling out change; starting small, delivering quickly, evaluating the process, and finding ways to refine and improve.

  • Not previously worked in a data governance or stewardship role

  • Are not constantly thinking about ways to improve or challenge the status quo
  • Are not passionate about contributing to our fight towards zero carbon living
  • Are not able to work in a cross-functional team to understand a problem and get consensus on what needs to be done
