Datacenter Operations Technician
Role Description
Dropbox is seeking experienced data center technicians to help maintain datacenter facilities around the globe. This person will be part of a small but growing team of very talented people responsible for building the cloud that hundreds of millions of users use to store their data.
Responsibilities- Receive, configure and place new servers in production. Included but not limited to ; managing installation white glove crews, working directly with datacenter engineering for proper power balancing and determining rack locations, initiate/debug python scripts for and running system commands that will enable our servers to be configured into our network. → 20%
- During our normal operations our DCS tech will be responsible for identifying, troubleshooting and triaging our server fleet health while leveraging our internal monitoring and ticket system. During this process they will have the tools to evaluate multiple server systems and debug any possible systemic issues. → 45%
- As part of the datacenter team you will be responsible in conjunction with other team members for handling incoming shipments and tracking server assets → 5%
- Work with multiple suppliers and supply chain to ensure proper seedstock levels are aligned with the business needs. → 5%
- Help develop and contribute to documentation by building new (HW teardowns, Repair, On-Call, and temp playbooks). → 5%
- Assist with promoting best practices in a datacenter → ongoing 5%
- Work with the datacenter engineering team to handle any abnormal conditions in our datacenter → ongoing 5%
- Support oncall rotation which includes Diagnosing, Triaging, and Communications of any abnormal events in the datacenter environment. → ongoing 10%
Many teams at Dropbox run Services with on-call rotations, which entails being available for calls during both core and non-core business hours. If a team has an on-call rotation, all engineers on the team are expected to participate in the rotation as part of their employment. Requirements- Experience with desktop PC and/or datacenter server hardware
- Intermediate knowledge of linux, operational understanding of and how to modify/add dns zone files, experience using version control such as git or hg, basic scripting and regular expressions
- Able to lift 20-30lbs on a daily basis
- 2+ years of experience working within a data center
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time and project management skills
- Ability to convey technical concepts clearly
- Prior experience working with multiple business partners
