Vulture is hiring an editorial games producer to help us build on the success of Cinematrix, our daily movie trivia grid game. We’re looking for someone who possesses a passion for games and game design that’s rivaled only by their love of movies, has otherworldly attention to detail, and can write cleanly with a bit of verve.

WHO WE ARE

Vulture, New York Magazine's home for pop culture and entertainment coverage, is where savvy culture consumers come to find sharp, obsessive coverage of their favorite entertainment and the people who create it.

Vulture is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what’s now, what’s next, and what’s possible.

As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Day-to-day management of the game: Delivering completed grids to our vendor. Requesting visual assets from our art team. Updating live games as needed.

  • Fact check: While many Cinematrix categories are automated, others are hand-programmed by our designers and require a fact-check to ensure that every eligible movie for a given square is valid, that no valid movies have been inadvertently omitted, and that movie titles are styled correctly.

  • Research: Finding eligible answers for games that are being designed, determining the viability of new categories that are being considered, helping define categories that involve subjectivity.

  • Data management: Maintaining a database of grid information and tending to a game archive.

  • Writing: Creating daily answer key posts, producing insights columns related to the game, pitching other ideas that might deepen the relationship we have with regular players.

  • Community building: Responding to emails; cultivating discussion spaces; working with the social team to promote the game on those platforms.

  • Building grids!: We can’t wait to hear about your dream squares.

WHO YOU ARE

A lover of entertainment, especially movies, and enjoyer of trivia and games. You have a desire to innovate and creatively problem-solve in the games space, working closely with game designers, product engineers, external vendors, and Vulture editors in order to improve Cinematrix and the player experience. You are detail-oriented and comfortable conducting research on a variety of platforms. Ideally, you are comfortable working in Google Sheets to help us organize game data.

If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch! We’ve hired chefs who became editors, DJs who became UX designers, and sommeliers who became writers.

WHERE YOU’LL WORK

Vulture has a NYC office from which local applicants would be encouraged but not expected to work. Fully remote candidates will be considered.
