About Waypoint…

HCP Waypoint is designed to enable platform teams to define golden patterns and workflows for developers to enable management of applications at scale. Waypoint and HCP Terraform work collaboratively to let developers quickly set up their apps' infrastructure with just a button press. The goal of Waypoint is to help platform teams provide a clear and consistent developer experience for their development teams while providing a central catalog of applications, day-2+ operations, and their associated metadata. HCP Waypoint is a rapidly evolving product with lofty aspirations.

About the Team…

The Waypoint engineering team is responsible for building HCP Waypoint on top of the HashiCorp Cloud Platform (HCP) integrating closely with HCP Terraform. We are a mix of backend and frontend engineers working alongside design and product management in a larger product line alongside Terraform, Vagrant, and Packer. We support a UI, CLI, Terraform Provider, and API. We are a small but mighty distributed and remote team that values cross-functional collaboration.

About the role…

You will be responsible for owning and contributing to core features in the HCP Waypoint UI to ensure an intuitive, accessible, and performant experience for our users. HCP Waypoint UI is the primary interaction point for many of our users. In addition to contributing user facing features, our engineers are also engaged in improvements to tooling, processes, and fostering collaboration and best practices across the team.

Our front end engineers are primarily responsible for the UI, but also have the opportunity to contribute across the stack. Our frontend engineers collaborate closely with design, backend, and product and are involved in all aspects of our product development. Our frontend engineers also collaborate with other front end engineers across the company through HCP contributions and interacting closely with our design systems team. We are looking for candidates who are comfortable in frontend engineering, but also interested in learning more about the full stack and starting to contribute beyond the UI.

In this role, you can expect to…
  • Guide the technical approach and architecture of Waypoint UI
  • Develop, advocate for, and support new and existing features for the Waypoint product
  • Collaborate closely with design, product, backend, and your fellow front end engineers
  • Interface with our larger HCP ecosystem and design system
  • Provide code review, mentorship, and support to Waypoint engineers
  • Work on issues and improvements critical to the success of HashiCorp customers
  • Participate and contribute to team conversations around product, process, and best practices
You may be a good match for our team if you have…
  • 2+ years of production experience building accessible and performant web applications
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Experience with Ember.js and/or TypeScript is a plus
  • Experience working with large JS repositories
  • Experience operating and maintaining production UIs in a public cloud environment
  • Balancing async and synchronous working styles. Understanding the value of written communication, but recognizing when having a synchronous conversation may be more valuable
  • Familiarity with infrastructure management concepts and/or Terraform. Experience building or interfacing with internal developer platforms/portals or other self service applications is a plus
