Engineering Manager – Instrumentation

Your Team:

At Lilium, we're pioneering the future of aviation with our cutting-edge electric aircraft. As Engineering Manager in the Test Services department, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of our innovative technology. We are looking for a driven individual to lead the Instrumentation team, which is responsible for the development and management of test instrumentation solutions for laboratory and flight test applications.

You will be responsible for leading a team of instrumentation engineers, driving the flight and lab test instrumentation overall system design, installation, and operation processes, based on internal defined requirements.

Your Role:

Leadership:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to a team of engineers at different level of experience.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient working culture, with the ability to adapt to new needs of the organization.
  • Manage the performance, well-being, and continuous development of your team members.

Instrumentation Development, Operation, and Management: 

  • Take the overall responsibility of Lilium’s test instrumentation equipment.
  • Lead the technical activities related to instrumentation specifications, including sensors selection, design of installation and wiring diagrams, sensors calibration, signal conditioning, parameters tapping, data validation, tracking and recording documentation and conformity.
  • Establish and maintain a close collaboration with different Engineering teams from the Aircraft design and Test departments as well as the Production Organization to enable a smooth end to end delivery of instrumentation solutions
  • Provide adequate management of calibration processes and procedures related to sensors and equipment calibration for Flight and Lab Test purposes.
  • Create, review, and approve engineering documentation for test instrumentation.
  • Lead instrumentation operational activities related to Flight and Lab Test.

Support and Best Practices:

  • Develop processes, guidelines, and best practices with your team and advise other Engineering teams.
  • Responsibility for resource and workload planning and coordination with interfacing teams.
  • Contribute to cross-functional Test Services initiatives related to tools and methods (e.g. parameter naming, configuration control).
  • Stay updated on new developments in instrumentation and share knowledge with your peers.
  • Work on ad-hoc projects and tasks as needed.

Your profile:

  • University degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field (M.Sc/M.Eng preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in a laboratory or flight test environment.
  • People Leadership experience.
  • Good knowledge and experience in aerospace measurement methods, sensors, acquisition systems, and calibration.
  • Knowledge and experience with data processing, analysis, and uncertainty calculations.
  • Experience with aviation-standard data buses like Arinc 429, Arinc 664 (AFDX), CAN and STANAG 4586.
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical design software (e.g. NX, Teamcenter) is beneficial.
  • Good knowledge about ISO-17025 standard is required, DO-178C is beneficial.
  • Knowledge about the EASA requirements and processes regarding instrumentation is beneficial.
