Data Sharing & Collaboration are key to Databricks’ mission of democratizing data and AI. Delta Sharing delivers data sharing & collaboration capability to our customers via: (a) secured open sharing to organizations on or outside of Databricks, (b) Databricks Cleanroom for privacy-safe collaboration on confidential data, (c) © Databricks Marketplace to discover and access data assets from hundreds of data providers.

We are seeking a visionary Engineering Manager to drive the innovation and next phase of growth of Data Sharing. In this role, you will lead a high-performing engineering team, drive strategic initiatives, and collaborate with product and technical stakeholders to deliver turnkey solutions to our customers.

About the Team

The Sharing and Collaboration team is building large-scale data sharing solutions centered around Databricks. We enable customers to share and collaborate on large data live across cloud and regional boundaries, with applications like Marketplace, Cleanroom, and more built on top of the open-sourced Delta Sharing technology.

We own the Databricks data sharing platform, which supports thousands of customers sharing large-scale data assets with top-notch performance, stability, and scalability. We aim to differentiate with an open sharing ecosystem via open source Delta sharing and a wide range of connectors. 

Delta Sharing is the industry’s first open protocol for secure data sharing, making it simple to share data with other organizations regardless of which computing platforms they use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Innovation: Lead the Data Sharing engineering team in evolving Databricks data sharing & collaboration platform
  • Strategic Vision: Define and shape the future direction of Databricks data sharing & collaboration, aligning with company strategy and evolving customer needs.
  • Team Development: Build and nurture a world-class team of software engineers through strategic hiring, mentoring, and leadership development
  • Technical Oversight: Make critical technical decisions, including long-term architectural strategies, while balancing the product roadmap
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ensure consistent delivery against milestones while maintaining strong alignment with cross-functional teams

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of Engineering experience and 2+ years of experience as an engineering leader. Past experience in data sharing & collaboration is preferred
  • Deep Proven record in developing high-quality, performant software and managing a SaaS & data-focused product
  • Strong technical expertise to lead team building and operate a large-scale data sharing platform that supports critical external and internal use cases with high availability and performance
  • Strong product sense and ability to understand and anticipate end-user needs, with enthusiasm and comprehensive understanding of the Data and AI landscape
  • Skilled in working cross-functionally with product teams, business stakeholders, and external partners
  • Experienced in attracting, hiring, and mentoring exceptional engineers; demonstrated success in developing leaders and integrating top-tier senior talent
  • Ability to build trust with the team and guide their professional development, including experience working with distributed teams
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field

 

Pay Range Transparency

Databricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles.  Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks utilizes the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. Zone 1 Pay Range$190,900—$274,700 USD
