ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST (FALCON/DRAGON)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain environmental compliance with all applicable regulations including but not limited to AQMD, LACSD, CARB, RWQCB, DTSC, CERCLA, CUPA, DOT, EPA and other applicable California and federal regulatory agencies
  • Perform tasks related to HWCL regulatory hazardous waste handling, storage and disposal requirements
  • Monitor and manage levels of hazardous waste at each department’s satellite accumulation area
  • Perform waste determinations of new waste streams
  • Ensure all waste is properly labeled
  • Ensure all waste is properly stored, according to its classification
  • Accurately record and maintain 90-day hazardous waste inventory logs
  • Perform all required hazardous waste and hazardous material storage area inspections
  • Schedule, prepare and assist in the execution of waste shipments in partnership with waste disposal contractor
  • Consolidate and lab pack waste when appropriate
  • Perform tasks and inspections related to CalEPA and SWRCB regulatory requirements for SPCC, SWPPP, and EPCRA/CalARP
  • Work closely with EHS Technicians and EHS Engineers to ensure regulatory compliance in the management of our environmental programs
  • Perform tasks related to spill response and prevention, including clean up and/or the coordination of cleaning activities with a third party
  • Order and maintain adequate spill supplies such as spill pads, empty drums, secondary containment, and other equipment necessary to maintain safe handling and correct disposal of hazardous waste
  • Perform regular inspections such as; hazardous waste accumulation and storage, universal waste storage, emergency eye wash/shower, SPCC, and SWPPP

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR high school diploma, or equivalency certificate, with 4+ years of experience implementing and overseeing environmental, health and safety programs

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineering
  • Experience in environmental field with 1+ years of environmental and regulatory compliance in a dynamic manufacturing environment
  • California regulatory and environmental compliance experience
  • Experience developing and maintaining air emissions permits under South Coast AQMD jurisdiction
  • Experience permitting and maintaining industrial discharges through the Los Angeles County Sanitation District
  • Experience developing and maintaining SWPPPs and site BMPs for RWQCB stormwater compliance
  • Experience with following agencies: AQMD, LACSD, RWQCB, EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience handling highly technical data and technical data interpretation
  • Track record of successful analysis, interpretation, and application of rules and regulations towards practical solutions
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other engineers, managers, federal, state and county agencies.
  • Ability to handle many projects at once, prioritize work, and work efficiently
  • Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with ongoing drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of work

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area
  • Position occasionally requires the ability to work overtime hours and/or weekends when needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Environmental Specialist/Level I: $30.00 – 38.00/per hour

Environmental Specialist/Level II: $34.00 – 43.00/per hour

Environmental Specialist/Level III: $38.00 – 48.00/per hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
