Financial Accountant (Freelance / Sabbatical Cover)

We’re looking for a Freelance Financial Accountant to support our Benelux Finance team during a sabbatical cover. In this role, you’ll play a key part in maintaining accurate accounting records, supporting the month-end close, and ensuring the smooth continuation of core finance processes.

Please note: this role requires regular on-site presence in Amsterdam. We do not sponsor visas or work with freelancers based outside the Netherlands for this position.

This is a part-time assignment (20 hours/week), ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys hands-on financial work.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll report to the Accounting Team Lead – Benelux and work closely with colleagues across Finance, Operations, Marketing, and our Global Finance teams in Berlin.

Your focus will be on maintaining accurate, timely financial processes and supporting critical deliverables during the sabbatical period.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Month-End Close: Prepare, validate, and book assigned journal entries to ensure timely and accurate monthly reporting.
  • Accruals & Adjustments: Work with Operations and Marketing to collect data, calculate, and process accruals.
  • Reconciliations: Complete weekly cash and monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts.
  • Intercompany Transactions: Record and reconcile transactions between Benelux entities and global counterparts.
  • Audit & Documentation Support: Prepare supporting files and respond to auditor requests during internal or external reviews.
  • Financial Records Maintenance: Keep ledgers up to date for up to five entities in the Benelux region, ensuring compliance and accuracy.

Objective:Maintain stability and accuracy in all core accounting activities to ensure business continuity during the cover period.

You have…
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience in a head-office or multi-entity environment.
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles and month-end processes.
  • Experience using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Excellent command of English.
  • A hands-on, proactive attitude and the ability to organize your work independently.
  • Strong communication skills — you reach out, clarify, and follow up when needed.
  • Accounting qualification (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) is a plus.
Practical details
  • Start date: 1 November 2025 or as soon as possible
  • End date: 17 April 2026 (fixed, non-negotiable)
  • Hours: Approx. 20 hours per week (with more hours expected during month-end closing)
  • Office presence: Encouraged during the first week of each month (month-end close) and every Wednesday (team day)
    • For this position we do not work with freelancers based abroad, as regular on-site presence is required.
