Wayfair is looking for a highly analytical and strategically minded leader to oversee our North American Trade Compliance team. The North American team lead will handle trade compliance concerns for all cross border transactions between the U.S. and Canada and will be responsible not only for compliance, but also for identifying cost-saving opportunities.

The ideal candidate will be a Licensed Customs Broker with 10-15+ years of experience in trade compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong foundation in trade compliance and experience with leading agile teams who is looking to apply their expertise in a dynamic, fast-paced, and technology forward organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee trade compliance efforts to ensure smooth operation for our Canadian and US business. 
  • Drive the strategy and manage operations for our Canada and US import programs.
  • Lead and maintain a strong, high performing, International Trade Compliance team to ensure our supply chains continue to move efficiently and with minimal disruption.
  • Develop deep expertise in our business, industry, and communities in order to anticipate and address risks to the company. Collaborate with and advise internal stakeholders to monitor and meet requirements for all applicable trade laws and regulations. Maintain continuous dialogue with all global stakeholders to successfully identify and mitigate risks associated with international trade. 
  • Act as liaison between the company and CBP, CBSA and other Governmental agencies regarding trade compliance.
  • Develop metrics to measure performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the completion of trade compliance reviews, audits, and risk management.
  • Ensure the configuration and control of the export/import and trade compliance documentation in accordance with local regulations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all customs broker relationships.
  • Proactively look for ways to improve compliance, mitigate risk, and create greater efficiencies in our processes. Specifically, support implementation of technology tools to drive automation of processes and optimize trade compliance procedures. 

Who you are:

  • 10-15+ years of experience in navigating US and Canada trade compliance. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working for or advising an e-commerce business. 
  • Licensed US Customs Broker.
  • Familiarity with broker and government portals including ACE and CARM.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Chapter 19 of the US Code of Federal Regulations, the Harmonized Tariff Schedules of the US and Canada, and experience with the regulatory audit programs of the US and Canadian Customs authorities.
  • Expertise and experience navigating trade policy and programs including CVD/ADD, SIMA, de minimus, normal value, valuation, scope rulings, and duty drawback.  
  • Ability to efficiently handle and organize multiple high value projects at a time, and operate in a fast-paced and innovative environment. Ability to make quick but informed decisions and persuasively advocate, communicate, and explain complex concepts to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Willingness to utilize systems, tools, and technology to solve or prevent problems.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves, get into the nitty gritty, and tackle compliance problems of all sizes.
  • Comfortable working 4 days per week on-site at Wayfair’s headquarters in Boston, MA.
  • Ability to travel as needed 10-15% of time.
