In-house Simplified Chinese to English Translator - (Full-time)

This role offers the perfect opportunity for an ambitious linguist to refine their translation expertise, harness AI-powered tools to deliver quality and speed, and build industry knowledge on market trends and consumer behavior.
What You'll DoAs a key member of our multilingual localisation team, your responsibilities will include:
- Contextual AI Translation: Utilise advanced AI translation tools and contextual technologies to produce accurate and fluent translations of Mintel’s content from Simplified Chinese to English.
 - Post-Editing Machine Translation: Review and refine machine-generated translations from Simplified Chinese to English, ensuring linguistic accuracy, natural flow, and adherence to cultural and stylistic nuances.
 - Proofreading & Revising: Edit and finalise translated content (including visual assets) to ensure accuracy in spelling, grammar, terminology, and format.
 - Quality Assurance: Ensure all translated content aligns with Mintel’s style guidelines, tone, and branding; perform linguistic testing of translated materials in context (e.g., user interfaces, websites) to ensure proper rendering and coherence.
 - Termbase and Glossary Management: Develop and maintain bilingual glossaries and termbases to ensure consistency in terminology across projects.
 
Translation Memory (TM) Management: Regularly update and maintain translation memories (TM) to ensure previously translated content is reused effectively.
- Resolving TMS Issues: Identify and troubleshoot issues within TMS and liaise with TMS technical support teams to resolve technical problems.
 
Linguistic Research: Stay updated on industry-specific language trends and terms to ensure translations remain relevant and modern.
- Feedback Incorporation: Review and implement feedback from reviewers, analysts, or clients to improve the quality of translations and refine workflows.
 
Time and Project Management:Plan and prioritise tasks effectively to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
- Innovation & Process Improvement: Contribute to developing and enhancing workflows by adopting emerging translation technologies.
 
We’re looking for a linguist who thrives in a tech-savvy environment and has a passion for producing polished, impactful translations.
Qualifications- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
 - Languages:
 - Proficiency in English and Chinese, with English fluent to the highest level of speaking and writing, and the ability to read and comprehend Chinese business writing and cultural nuances.
 - HSK level 6 qualification preferred
 
- Adept at identifying and correcting machine translation errors in grammar, syntax, and terminology while enhancing fluency and readability. Prior experience with post-editing workflows and tools is highly valued.
 - Contextual AI Expertise: Experience using AI translation technology to handle diverse and complex content.
 - Proficiency with CAT tools and Translation Management Systems (TMS).
 - Strong attention to detail, ensuring translations are accurate and contextually appropriate.
 - Ability to adapt to new tools and workflows, including content management systems (CMS).
 - Skilled in managing tight deadlines and balancing multiple projects.
 - Analytical mindset for assessing content structure and overall coherence.
 - Familiarity with cross-referencing resources for enriched, subject-specific translations.
 - Good cultural knowledge of China and experience living in China would be a strong advantage.
