We are seeking high-energy, entrepreneurial, and value-driven professionals to join Blenheim Chalcot, a leading global venture builder. In this role, you will negotiate and draft commercial contracts, provide comprehensive legal advice across various disciplines, and support our portfolio ventures, which are all embedded with GenAI.

THE ROLE   At Blenheim Chalcot, we are expanding our legal team by recruiting a Legal Counsel into our Scale Space White City office. The role will report to Blenheim Chalcot’s Senior Legal Counsel and will require a commercially minded individual to negotiate and draft commercial contracts and provide legal advice across various legal disciplines, including, but not limited to, intellectual property, commercial, data protection, property, corporate and employment law.   You will work as a key member of our Legal Team, closely collaborating with a range of stakeholders within the wider VBS business and across a portfolio of over 25 companies. This role is varied and challenging, requiring you to apply your commercial skills while taking responsibility for managing risk across the business.   Key responsibilities   

  • Negotiate and Draft Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts. 
  • Support Portfolio Companies: Provide legal support to the rapidly expanding portfolio of Blenheim Chalcot businesses, including startups, especially those offering AI solutions. 
  • Data Protection and Compliance: Monitor and implement data protection, privacy, and compliance policies. 
  • Risk Management: Identify, monitor, research, and resolve issues relating to commercial contracts, liaising with external and internal stakeholders to minimize business risk. 
  • Intellectual Property Protection: Help portfolio businesses protect their brands and intellectual property. 
  • Transaction Documentation: Work closely with the BC Investments team to accurately document transactions and advise on processes set out in a company’s articles and/or shareholders’ agreement. 
  • Independent Work: Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.      

The Ideal Candidate  

The ideal candidate will have a track record of delivering results in a fast-moving business environment and be comfortable with change and uncertainty. Excellent stakeholder management experience is essential to being successful in this role. 

  • Professional Qualifications: qualified in England and Wales with at least 1 year PQE, but we will also consider candidates who are in the process of qualification or are foreign-qualified lawyers with experience working with English and Welsh law  
  • In-House Experience: Ideally, will have some prior in-house experience, ideally in a venture capital or startup environment. 
  • Commercial Legal Advice: Experience providing legal advice in a commercial environment and working across data protection and intellectual property issues. 
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to build strong work relationships internally and externally. 
  • AI Solutions Experience: Understanding of the legal implications and challenges specific to businesses offering AI solutions is preferable. 
  • Independent Work: Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively. 
  • Commercial Mindset: A commercially minded approach to legal practice, with the ability to align legal strategies with business goals.
