LEAD NETWORK OPERATIONS ENGINEER (STARLINK)

Join the team operating the network that will revolutionize internet access. A successful Lead Network Operations Engineer will build, lead, and inspire a team of Network Operations Engineers to quickly provision and augment our POPs, edge, backbone and backhaul infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead a team of network operations engineers to develop processes, implement, and scale Starlink Network transit, backbone and backhaul connectivity
  • Plan and execute the physical build-out of our POP rack production line
  • Provide input into capacity planning, forecasting, and expansion strategy at the physical layer of the network
  • Work with the engineering team to develop and enforce structured cabling standards, rack layout designs, labeling, and document rack build process
  • Lead the team to work with SRE and data center smart hands to diagnose and troubleshoot issues with the packet processors
  • Manage and coordinate a 24/7 on-call rotation to support the rapid growth of the network and ensure timely execution of infrastructure activations and troubleshooting, including deployments across multiple time zones.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline; OR 2+ years of professional experience in software development, system administration, site reliability, or experience working in a network operations center in lieu of a degree
  • Experience with Python, SQL, and/or bash scripting
  • Experience with modern networking protocols: (TCP/IPv4/IPv6, voice, video, broadcast, streaming)
  • 1+ year experience in a manager/leadership role

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years of experience working in network operations/infrastructure
  • 2+ years of experience developing software, processes, or projects in a rapidly changing, highly demanding environment and ability to run these projects independently
  • Understanding of service provider and home networks technologies including but not limited to:
    • Connectivity (Ethernet, WiFi, WDM, IPv4, and IPv6)
    • Switching (MPLS, QinQ)
    • Routing (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS)
    • Subscriber management (BNG, RADIUS/AAA, QoS, BSS/OSS integration)
    • Network security and Anti-DDoS measures
    • Internet services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, UPnP, NAT etc.)
    • Knowledge and troubleshooting about most common consumer devices (NAS, IoT, Smart devices, etc…)
    • Residential or enterprise WiFi design and remote troubleshooting
  • Residential or business customer interaction experience, customer support preferred
  • Experience creating documentation and procedures from scratch
  • Experience working within complex, software defined networking (SDN) and/or network function virtualization (NFV) environments
  • Current associate level or higher industry networking certification (JNCIA, CCNA or equivalent)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:           Network Operations Engineer/Lead: $130,000.00 - $180,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
