Building a team starts with valuing the team. We hire the best of the best to ensure you’re working with people you can constantly learn from. You’re trusted to get your work done your way while testing the limits of what’s possible and what’s next. We work hard to provide a culture where everyone feels supported, and our employees feel it—their votes helped us become one of Newsweek's Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplaces in 2023.

We also value sports. Not just because of the big wins and highlight-worthy plays, but because of the lasting impact sports can have: the lifelong lessons in teamwork and dedication; the influence of inspiring mentors; the priceless opportunities to play at the next level. Sports can change lives—that’s what we value.

Our team helps the world see sports differently through products that make it easier to capture video, analyze data, share highlights and do a lot more.

Your Role

We're looking for a Lead Product Designer to lead the charge for our Hudl design system Uniform. This is a hands-on contributor, coach and visionary role that will help our platform team maintain, manage and scale our design system.

This role reports to the VP of Design.

As a Lead Designer, you’ll:

  • Invest in the design chapter and our collective success. You’ll work openly with the Design team to shape our culture, processes and tools, and facilitate onboarding of awesome new designers. You’ll find the ways to scale your influence and impact, reaching across the organization to build our our design system. You’ll be an advocate, evangelist and expert.
  • Be open, transparent and communicative. You’ll support a nimble design system team through processes as you build shared understanding and establish a vision.
  • Drive toward outcomes at scale. You’ll balance being a hands-on contributor and a collaborative leader, thinking holistically about the future of our Uniform design system and deeply about individual features and workflows that squads work on. You’ll closely scrutinize processes with the goal of improving continually over time to better support our squads.

Our priority is to hire someone for this role who lives near our office in Lincoln, Nebraska, but we're also open to remote candidates who live in the following states: AL, AZ, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NH, NC, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WY.

Must-Haves
  • A passionate, experienced practitioner. You have 6+ years of experience working in a SaaS user experience and design org (hardware knowledge is a plus!), and 3+ years of experience working in and leading design systems.
  • An expert in Figma. You know AutoLayout, Variants and Interactive Components, with proficiency in Component Properties, newly released features and branching.
  • Thrives in ambiguity. You can create both tactical and big picture views, then align teams to get there. You’re able to choose the best medium and fidelity to convey your ideas at each stage of a project, and you’re not afraid to socialize explorations to validate or invalidate your assumptions and opinions. You can back your designs, perspectives and decisions in rationale, ideation and customer understanding.
  • A laser focus on user experience. You know how to scale your influence and connect with distributed, global design teams. You’re as proud of your organizational tools as you are the outcomes delivered to end users.
  • A storyteller and dot connector. You’re an expert communicator and collaborator, capable of working closely and partnering with Product Managers, Engineers and Designers to drive vision, alignment and strategy forward. You excel in giving and receiving feedback and critique.
  • A strong understanding of UI standards. You have experience designing products following standards such as WCAG Accessibility standards, native mobile conventions, and iOS + Android guidelines. You know how to emphasize the business value of design and why accessibility matters.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Engineering experience. You’ve spent time with front-end development, using languages such as HTML, CSS, React, and React Native and/or leveraging front-end tools such as Storybook. You’ve used those skills to contribute actual components to a previous design system.
  • A curious learner. You keep up to date with the latest design system trends and popular design systems such as Material and Spectrum.
  • A sports enthusiast. You understand the unique challenges and opportunities within the sports technology industry.
Our Role
  • Champion work-life harmony. We’ll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time, company-wide holidays and timeout (meeting-free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
  • Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
  • Encourage career growth. We’re lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We’ll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
  • Provide an environment to help you succeed. We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you’re at the office or working remotely, we’ll provide you the tech stack and hardware to do your best work.
  • Support your mental and physical health. We care about our employees’ wellbeing. Our Employee Assistance Program, employee resource groups and fitness partner Peerfit have you covered.
  • Cover your medical insurance. We have multiple plans to pick from to ensure you’ll have the coverage you (and your dependents) want, including vision, dental, fertility healthcare and family forming benefits.
  • Contribute to your 401(K). Yep, that’s free money. We’ll match up to 4% of your own contribution.
Inclusion at Hudl

Hudl is an equal opportunity employer. Through our actions, behaviors and attitude, we’ll create an environment where everyone, no matter their differences, feels like they belong. We offer resources to ensure our employees feel safe bringing their authentic selves to work, including employee resource groups and communities. But we recognize there’s ongoing work to be done, which is why we track our efforts and commitments in annual inclusion reports. We also know imposter syndrome is real and the confidence gap can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates. Please don’t hesitate to apply—we’d love to hear from you.
