Your Role

This role serves as the primary attorney for Hudl’s commercial contracting function, and is responsible for developing and managing the U.S.-based commercial contracting team of contract managers. This job is expected to develop processes and systems to help the team scalably and systematically review contracts, RFPs and other related documents in an efficient manner. This role may also be called upon to provide general legal counsel to Hudl’s core businesses. While a substantial portion of the work is commercial in nature, the ideal candidate can act as a generalist with the ability to advise across a number of legal areas.

As Legal Counsel, you’ll: 

  • Negotiate commercial contracts and drive deals. You’ll be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, including sales/customer contracts, marketing and technology agreements, partnership agreements, content license agreements and vendor agreements. 
  • Implement and improve commercial contracting systems and processes. You’ll create, update and maintain contracting templates, playbooks and processes across Hudl’s product suites to minimize legal risk while advancing business objectives. You’ll also partner closely with legal operations and revenue operations and leverage our commercial tech stack (including Salesforce, Ironclad (CLM) and other relevant systems) to implement scalable and efficient commercial processes. 
  • Provide legal guidance. Internal clients across multiple departments—including senior leaders in sales, marketing, product and customer support—will rely on your expertise. You’ll principally support our go-to-market efforts and will be responsible for implementing contracting strategies for new product launches and M&A integration, as well as training relevant business stakeholders on contracting principles and processes. You’ll also support the brand and marketing function by reviewing marketing materials and advising on contests, promotions and other initiatives.   
  • Conduct legal research. You’ll conduct legal research and  keep up with current changes in relevant areas of law and contribute to the enhancement of the knowledge base of the company’s legal function.  

For this role, we're currently considering candidates who live within a commuting distance of our office in Lincoln, NE and are not considering relocation. With our flexible work policy, there aren't any current requirements for the number of days you come to the office.

Must-Haves
  • Professionally educated and experienced. You have a law degree from an accredited law school and a minimum of three years post-qualified experience working in a law firm and/or in-house. 
  • A passion for leading and developing others. You have previous management experience (or have served in an active mentorship capacity) and enjoy coaching and developing others. 
  • Legal and business acumen. You have a deep understanding of laws and regulations that could impact Hudl, especially in commercial transactions, and a practical approach to managing legal risk while meeting business objectives .
  • Strong process orientation. You are a systems thinker with a passion for process implementation and improvement. You have the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-moving environment, consider the big picture and balance at-times competing interests and objectives.A translator. You have strong writing skills and the ability to translate complex legal issues for non-lawyers verbally and in writing. 
Nice-to-Haves
  • Relevant industry experience. You have relevant and successful legal experience in the context of software/SaaS commercial transactions. Previous M&A, EdTech, data protection, privacy/student data privacy and/or government contracting experience is a plus.   Global mindset. Compensation

The base salary range for this role is displayed below, and may be eligible for bonuses which are offered at Hudl's sole discretion.  Where a candidate is placed within this base salary range is determined by experience, skills, education and training required for the job as well as our internal pay equity.  Discretionary bonuses, if awarded, may include annual targets based on company performance and a long-term incentive award.
