Why Mozilla?

Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser, and Pocket, a service for keeping up with the best content online. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we’re shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we’re doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission – to make the internet better for people.

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.

About this team and role:

We are looking for a Product Policy Manager to join our public policy team. In this role, you will collaborate with our internal product and engineering teams to provide expert advice on public policy implications related to the rollout of privacy-focused products and advertising technologies in different markets. Your insights will be essential in navigating the complex regulatory landscapes, ensuring our products not only meet privacy standards but also contribute to a safer and more privacy-respecting internet in line with our Manifesto.

While this role pertains to products offered at a global level, experience in EU and broader European markets will be needed.

As this role involves working with multiple stakeholders (both internally and externally) across teams, geographies, and Mozilla entities, project management and organizational skills will be critical.

What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with internal product and engineering teams to understand the privacy implications and regulatory aspects of products being developed, particularly in the area of privacy-preserving advertising.
  • Proactively identify public policy challenges associated with the rollout of privacy-focused products and advertising solutions, and provide advice to mitigate these risks.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure the integration of privacy policy considerations in the product development process.
  • Represent Mozilla in external forums, industry groups, and other venues on privacy policy issues, particularly related to advertising, ensuring our views are accurately and effectively communicated.
  • Engage with policymakers, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders to advocate for privacy frameworks that support the open web and Mozilla’s privacy-preserving product initiatives.
  • Translate complex technical concepts related to privacy and advertising into actionable policy insights and recommendations.
  • Build and maintain documentation regarding privacy regulatory requirements, compliance, and policy considerations for various markets.
  • Coordinate with global policy, legal, marketing, communications and the Mozilla Foundation’s teams to ensure consistency in privacy policy positions and advocacy efforts across different jurisdictions.
  • Monitor, analyse, and communicate internally about emerging privacy policy issues, regulatory developments, and global trends affecting Mozilla's products and services, particularly in the advertising space.

What you’ll bring:

  • 6+ years experience in public policy, legal, or a related field, preferably with a focus on privacy, technology, and digital policy.
  • Strong understanding of the tech industry, privacy, and digital policy landscape, particularly as it pertains to advertising.
  • Proven track record to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, product managers, and other technical experts.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex privacy issues clearly and with precision.
  • Strong negotiation and advocacy skills, with a track record of effective external representation.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in public policy, law, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Commitment to our values:
    • Welcoming differences
    • Being relationship-minded
    • Practicing responsible participation
    • Having grit

What you’ll get:

  • Generous performance-based bonus plans to all eligible employees - we share in our success as one team
  • Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of whether you contribute)
  • Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a pause together

  • One-time home office stipend
  • Annual professional development budget
  • Quarterly well-being stipend
