Research Scientist, USA
We research and develop cutting-edge machine learning models for billions of Google users. Our current projects include Imagen 3 and Veo. Located in Mountain View, we collaborate with teams around the world, especially Google PAs to iteratively improve the model performance and expand its capabilities
About UsArtificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.
The RoleKey Responsibilities:
The Research Scientist role involves applying scientific expertise to advance GDM's mission. You will work independently on research assignments, driving project segments, which involves conducting literature reviews, using scientific methods and independent judgment to develop new methods solving challenging problems, balancing short-term and long-term goals, taking engineering approaches to measure, validate and evaluate the impact of research.
Some of our current projects are focusing on the areas below so experience in any of these is highly beneficial:
- Multi-media generation (image, video, and audio)
- Generative models (e.g. autoregressive, diffusion)
- Model optimization
- Reinforcement Learning
We seek out individuals who thrive in ambiguity, approach challenging problems and explore the solution space with curiosity, and take scientific and systematic methods to solve problems. We regularly need to invent novel solutions to problems and deliver impact through research activities, so flexibility and adaptability to balancing short-term and long-term goals is important.
In order to set you up for success as a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:
- PhD degree in computer science, mathematics, applied statistics, machine learning or similar experience working in industry
- A strong publication record on machine learning, statistics, and diffusion model theories and their applications
- Hands-on experience with training diffusion models and other generative models
- Proven experience of Tensorflow or similar ML frameworks (e.g. JAX or PyTorch)
- Recent experience conducting independent research
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
- Experience in diffusion model latency reduction
- Experience in controlled media generation
- Proven experience conducting research in industry
