Where you’ll work:

Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person. 

You’ll be assigned to the closest one of our three hub offices, Bristol, Glasgow, or London; unless your role requires field-based work. Each hub has accessible spaces to park your laptop, is designed to inspire people, help them connect and bring big ideas to life.

This role in a nutshell:

As a Senior AI Engineer in our team, your role will be instrumental in developing and scaling our contact centre AI solution. You will work as the sole AI Engineer in a cross functional team. 

Your expertise will drive the delivery of innovative AI-powered features, ensuring OVO Energy remains a leader in providing seamless and tailored experiences for our customers. This role is an opportunity to leverage ML for a sustainable future while pushing the boundaries of technology.

Your key outcomes will be:

• Working closely within a cross-functional product team of Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Data Engineers to build and scale our contact center AI solution as the dedicated AI Engineer.
• Develop and maintain training, evaluation, and deployment pipelines for AI, including tasks like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), fine-tuning, and large language models (LLMs).
• Work with data scientists to design and implement feedback loops, online and offline evaluation methods, and A/B testing for continuous model improvement.
• Own the observability, cost management, performance, training, and evaluation of models to ensure reliable and efficient deployments.
• Bring ML expertise to shape our target architecture, design pipelines and help define robust development processes.

You’ll be a successful Senior AI Engineer here at OVO if you…

• Demonstrated experience with deploying production-grade models with rigorous standards for scalability, reliability, and monitoring
• Experience in repeatable cloud infrastructure provisioning, configuration management across the MLOps architecture (including CI/CD pipelines) and database systems
• Fluency in Python, SQL and Terraform
• Strong understanding of software testing and continuous integration
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality data and software engineering projects end-to-end, translating into true commercial impact within a business
• Excellent presentation and communication skills - able to articulate results clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders
• Ability to consult with, and sometimes challenge, teams of differing levels of data engineering knowledge
• Background in software engineering with experience working as a dedicated ML Engineer in a collaborative team

We’ll pay you between £64,000 - £92,000, depending on your specific skills and experience.

You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
