Senior Analyst, Indirect Tax

Okta is looking for a Senior Analyst, Indirect Tax to join our India based tax team to support our rapid expansion globally.  The ideal candidate for the Senior Analyst role would be someone who has spent time working in a Big 4 (or equivalent) firm or with a multinational enterprise, focusing on global indirect tax matters.  This role will assist the global indirect tax function with the global indirect tax compliance calendar, and will also be involved in the continued global expansion efforts.  The Senior Analyst, Indirect Tax has the following key responsibilities: 

  • Extract & format data/reports from internal systems.
  • Prepare & file Indirect Tax returns (GST/VAT) for various jurisdictions.
  • Assist with registration & de-registration of VAT/GST for Okta foreign subsidiaries
  • Prepare and maintain the global Indirect Tax compliance calendar and coordinate final review with the Indirect Tax team.
  • Assist with both internal & external tax audits, including tracking of notices from tax authorities, preparing documentation, and adhering to deadlines.
  • Liaise with other key tax, accounting, and finance professionals on process improvement projects.
  • Prepare reconciliations of VAT/GST returns to tax related GL accounts.
  • Reconcile bank statements to tax payments.
  • Work with Treasury to ensure the remittance of correct & timely tax payments.
  • Liaise with external service providers on tax matters, wherever required.
  • Support the US based tax team with other global indirect tax matters in support of the company's tax reporting & compliance reporting obligations.
  • Assist with other miscellaneous tax returns SUT/Property Taxes/Business license.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in a Big-4 firm or multi-national company with increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience in both public accounting and corporate tax departments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Indian indirect tax matters (including VAT/GST and TDS), as well as a broad understanding/experience with indirect tax matters in other VAT and GST countries globally.
  • Knowledge of one or more common ERP platforms; experience with NetSuite and Alteryx is a plus.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills; ability to research and communicate complex indirect tax issues to management and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to issue spot and proactively develop indirect tax compliance solutions in a fast-paced technology environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Growth mindset and willingness to embrace change.
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in tax law or tax economics (accounting/finance knowledge is strongly preferred).
  • Organized, self-motivated with a cooperative attitude.
