Position Description

We are looking for an experienced and highly technical Senior Software Architect to join the Identity Management (IdM) team. In this role, you will lead the technical vision for the future of identity management, tackling the complex challenges of a cloud-native world while also leaning into our customers' on-premise needs.

You will share our passion and pride in elegant, scalable solutions and will join an engineering team that strongly believes in designing for scale, rigorous code reviews, automated testing, and an iterative process to build high-quality, next-generation enterprise software. Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive the long-term architecture of our Identity Management platform.

  • Translate product and market requirements into designs that align with the mid- and long-term goals for our product and technology evolution.

  • Design, implement, review, and troubleshoot highly scalable, mission-critical software.

  • Foster, enable, and promote a culture of innovation.

  • Analyze and refine requirements in close collaboration with Product Management.

  • Work with engineering management to scope and plan engineering efforts, especially those spanning multiple teams.

  • Champion test-driven development, and uphold high standards for design and code reviews.

  • Collaborate with QA, SREs/Technical Operations, Product Management, Technical Support, Documentation, and UX teams.

  • Mentor junior engineers to foster their growth and development.

  • Drive key technical initiatives across Okta Product Development.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 15+ years of backend software development experience building highly reliable, mission-critical software.

  • Deep experience with server-side technologies, including caching, asynchronous processing, and multi-threading.

  • Proven experience working in Security, Governance, or Authentication & Authorization domains.

  • Experience designing and implementing REST APIs.

  • A solid grasp of software engineering principles and best practices.

  • Experience in Test-Driven Development (TDD).

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with Java, MySQL, and Postgres.

  • Experience with Identity Management, specifically Identity Governance & Administration (IGA).

  • Deep knowledge of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies (e.g., OAuth, SAML, SCIM).

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in San Francisco Bay Area. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $305,000—$381,000 USD
