Role: Senior Art Director
Location:Durban, South Africa (hybrid)
ROLE MISSION
Working in partnership with our client, the Senior Art Director will help lead our passionate, multi-talented studio, guiding more junior members to deliver, and encourage exceptional integrated concepts that exceed client briefs and expectations. A Senior Art Director is an important contact point in our agency, so they can expect to be craft-led, strategically driven, media agnostic, agile and consistently conceptual, with a desire to transform brands by creating exceptional, intuitive, and human-centered products and experiences. The successful candidate will be tuned into all aspects of South African popular culture and the platforms and media it plays in, as well as have a strong point of view on what it takes to win in this space, with the experience to back it up. Immaculate art direction ability is paramount.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING IN YOUR ROLE
- Work closely with the ECD to develop and produce creative concepts / campaigns that meet client objectives and drive business results in response to creative briefs
- To present work internally and externally in a clear and professional manner
- Work closely with relevant account teams, ensuring effective communication and management of team’s expectations
- Work with account teams to understand the client’s brand and manage projects in a way that will support the delivery of the brand
- To manage and take ownership of projects from origination to completion
- Disseminate learning through other creative teams and the department
- To develop skills and knowledge within yourself through on–the-job development, active participation in the agency and department
- Provide feedback to your copywriter regarding improvements that could be made to your team, the department and agency
- Create clear goals for yourself and set out to achieve them
- Actively support and involve team members at the appropriate time to resolve issues
- Encourage all members to look for collaborative ways to make this a great place to work.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior art directors, offering constructive feedback and helping them grow their skills and abilities.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to ensure that our work remains fresh, innovative, and effective.
- Have a pro-active mindset to identify opportunities within each brief to develop work that’s clutter-breaking and possibly award-winning
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and quality assurance
WHAT SKILLS WILL HELP YOU BE SUCCESSFUL
- Degree or Diploma in Art Direction (or a Degree in Communication/Design/Fine Art etc. that shows competent visual skills)
- 10 years’ plus experience in art direction with a focus on FMCG
- Mainstream advertising agency experience – a must
- A passionate art director with integrated and digital experience
- A sound knowledge of the relevant structures and processes in the agency
- Confident communication skills
Working knowledge of these tools:
- Illustrator
- Photoshop
- After Effects (beneficial)
- KeyNote / PowerPoint
- InDesign
- Google Web Designer & DV360 (beneficial)
