The Senior Editor will play a crucial role in crafting the narrative and visual storytelling of our projects. They will collaborate closely with the creative team, Creative Director, and Head of Film and Motion to ensure that all footage is edited to perfection, aligning with the creative vision and project goals.

The role requires a strong sense of pacing, rhythm, and a mastery of the latest editing software and techniques. The Lead Editor will be key in integrating new technologies and workflows, such as virtual production and real-time editing, to deliver seamless, high-quality content.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Perform editing tasks, including assembling, cutting, refining, and finalising footage to achieve the desired narrative and visual flow.
  • Manage and maintain an organised project file structure and ensure all assets are correctly labelled and accessible.
  • Implement any changes or adjustments quickly and efficiently in response to client feedback or creative direction.
  • Ensure all edits are completed on time and within scope, maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.
  • Utilise SFX skills to enhance visual storytelling, adding sound effects, transitions, and other audio elements to elevate the overall impact of the project.
  • Prepare and ensure the delivery of offline edits, confirming all files are correctly formatted and fully usable for VFX or third-party partners.
  • Review project briefs and creative direction to fully understand the editing requirements and objectives.
  • Participate in initial planning meetings with the creative team, Creative Director, and Head of Film and Motion to establish editing strategies and timelines.
  • Assist in assembling and organising raw footage, assets, and materials in preparation for editing.
  • Evaluate and recommend editing tools, software, and technologies needed for the specific project.
  • Develop an initial editing workflow and schedule, ensuring alignment with project deadlines and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain efficient editing workflows and best practices for the team.
  • Mentor and train junior editors and freelancers to support their professional development.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging editing technologies, recommending and implementing new tools and techniques.
  • Collaborate with other departments to optimise post-production processes on other projects.

 

QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • 5+ years of experience in video editing.
  • Expertise in editing software and post-production processes, including virtual and real-time production.
  • Ensures seamless offline delivery with properly formatted files for VFX and third-party partners.
  • Proficient in industry-standard editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Avid Media Composer) and post-production processes, including virtual and real-time production.
  • Skilled in organising and managing multiple projects while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Excellent aesthetic judgment aligned with the AKQA vision.
  • Strong creativity as well as strong ideation and conception skills
  • Strong technical creativity: being able to combine novel, experimental technologies to create cutting edge visuals.
  • Advanced expertise in industry-standard editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve).
  • Strong understanding of post-production workflows, including colour grading, sound design, and VFX integration.
  • Proficient in managing and organising large volumes of media and project files.
  • Experience with SFX and audio editing tools to enhance visual storytelling.
  • Familiarity with virtual production, real-time editing technologies, and cloud-based collaboration tools.
  • Knowledge of various video formats, codecs, and file types for optimal delivery across platforms.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and ensure smooth operation of editing systems and equipment.
