Seeking an experienced engineer to develop embedded systems software and implement algorithms for advanced LiDAR systems that will be used in the automotive market. Advanced knowledge of Embedded Processors, DSPs, and FPGAs will be a key player for the embedded systems group. A successful candidate will be well rounded and enthusiastic about assisting with various aspects of embedded systems design. Strong communication and listening skills are critical as the candidate will be interacting with a cross-functional group as it pertains to the embedded systems platform. 

Responsibilities
  • Develop and integrate device drivers for a wide range of both internal and external microcontroller hardware 
  • Develop embedded software components running on an RTOS 
  • Bring up new hardware platforms 
  • Debug existing hardware platforms 
  • Rapidly prototype future hardware platforms 
  • Assist in both the development and integration of inter-processor communication (IPC) as part of a larger embedded system  
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent 
  • 5+ years of industry experience working with embedded systems 
  • Solid foundation and experience using C and C++ in the embedded domain 
  • Demonstrable experience using scripting or general-purpose programming language to solve problems 
  • First-hand expertise using an RTOS including definition and scheduling of tasks, integration of board support packages (BSPs), partitioning and use of memory, efficient utilization of I/O, and use and creation of device drivers 
  • Solid foundation and experience using communication protocols including I2C, UART, SPI, and I2S 
  • Solid foundation and experience using microcontroller peripherals including ADCs, DACs, Flash, EEPROM, timers, and watchdogs 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering  
  • Solid foundation and experience using vehicle communication protocols including CAN and Ethernet 
  • Development of signal processing or control systems algorithms targeted for an embedded system 
  • Knowledge of full lifecycle processes in safety-critical industries such as automotive, medical, or military with a particular interest in first-hand ISO 26262 and Automotive SPICE experience 
  • Experience with FPGA design and implementation

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $120,000 and $160,000 per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including: equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Luminar. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.
