We’re looking for a Senior Platform Engineer who can have significant influence on the way we build, operate and run our platform. This work will involve leading the implementation of Platform Engineering across our group, touching areas such as managing our cloud infrastructure, compute clusters, observability tooling, and our data stores. Deliveroo is growing rapidly and our infrastructure critically underpins this growth. Delivering a secure, reliable, highly available and performant cloud environment is a key focus for this role.

What you'll do?

As a Senior Platform Engineer at Deliveroo, your individual work contributes to driving team-level goals and metrics. Occasionally you will lead work outside of the direct remit of your team benefitting other teams. You will report to managers and groups leads and together drive the success of an individual team.

Technical Execution

• You will have a deep understanding of multiple services and their intersection with other parts of the business. Highly proficient in all tools, languages and external services relevant to their work
• The role will see you writing and reviewing technical designs on behalf of their team and delivering code of any size or scope required for the success of the team.
• Your work will also see you lead on team project planning, foreseeing dependencies and risks, and setting a sustainable and incremental team pace.

Collaboration & Leadership

• You will lead the work of other engineers within the team and drive the success of the team this will include influencing the roadmap and direction of the team.
• The role also requires you to build cross-team relationships with adjacent teams (when relevant) to solve problems and deliver projects
• Lead engineering interviews to help guide the understanding of the Deliveroo bar for all lower levels which often requires contribution in other recruiting areas outside of interviewing.

We want to emphasise that we don't expect you to meet all of the below but would love you to have experience in some of these areas.

• Pride in readable, well-designed, well-tested solutions
• Have a strong grounding in a specific technical area in the platform space (eg. Containers, Kafka, Networking)
• Extensive experience with infrastructure tooling, ideally Terraform
• A strong background in software engineering, preferably with Go and/or Python
• Proven ability to define and run projects from inception to delivery
• Proven system design experience
• Improving leadership skills, including coaching, team-building and generally supporting peers and colleagues
• Extensive experience with AWS cloud computing
• (Optionally) Proven ability to coordinate technical projects across multiple teams
• (Optionally) Experience with datastores, ideally PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and/or Redis
• (Optionally) Experience of working closely and building relationships with customer engineering groups
