About the role

In the role of Senior Royalties Analyst, you will report to the Manager, Financial Contract Reporting - Royalties.

We are considering applicants for the location of Tokyo, Japan. 

  • Deliver contractual obligations statements to partners for IP invested by managing timelines.
  • Clarify the terms of agreements and build contractual calculations for co-production and other types of licensing in and out agreements.
  • Prepare all financial statements with a thorough review of various aspects such as gross calculations, royalty calculations, taxes, window fees, order of recoupment, deal/committee structure setup, payment due, payments applied per participant, and any other contractual terms specified in executed deals.
  • Prepare required reports to the US parent company for review and approval.
  • Help implement and adopt new systems and processes to increase efficiency and ensure full SOX and internal control compliance.
  • Post and reconcile to the accounting systems the transactions related to contractual obligations.
  • Partner with Accounting and Co-Production teams to implement better ways of working throughout the business to super-serve our licensors.
  • Work with international counterparts to ensure understanding of Royalty processes and tracking of financial reporting.
  • Support other departments with inquiries or ad-hoc projects related to royalty payables.
  • Align with and complete internal audit requirements (including SOX), managing checklists, reviews, and approval.
Core Areas of Responsibility
  • Calculate Co-Production Royalties Statements with accuracy and work with Producers, Accounting, Business Affairs, and the US counterparts.
  • Prepare Accounts Payable and Receivable files and work with the Accounting team.
  • Participate in the new royalties system implementation, coordinating efforts, completing user testing, and collaborating, including providing recommendations to ensure the Japan setup is functional and supports full automation of statement processing.
  • Review the royalty statements from the US parent entity and work with relevant departments to ensure accuracy.
About You

We get excited about candidates, like you, because...

  • 5+ years of experience in accounts payable or accounts receivable with exposure to third-party participation, royalty reporting, and licensing models.
  • Experience with international deal reporting and analysis in a large corporate setting
  • Experience reading and interpreting legal agreements
  • Experience in analyzing large quantities of data, resolving discrepancies, and driving to deliver data-driven answers to transformation efforts.
  • Familiarity with large-scale ERP and Royalties systems
  • Native to Business level Japanese skills (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Intermediate English skills (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Entertainment or SaaS industry experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics
