The Creative Serving team maintains and operates mission critical systems involved in every ad serving across Liftoff’s product line. Our systems are foundational and fundamental for Liftoff to function and thrive. As a senior staff engineer, you will build and maintain deep, strategic integration with our partner exchanges, assure impeccable uptime and drive cost effective content delivery world-wide. This includes close collaboration with our internal real time bidding (RTB) Exchange and SDK to help enable Liftoff Exclusive advertising capabilities.

 

As a senior member of our staff, you will play a pivotal role in championing our engineering culture and forging solid partnerships with our commercial and product teams. Your influence will extend to shaping our architectural planning and roadmap, ensuring we stay ahead in the dynamic ad tech ecosystem. Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the Evolution of Our Ad Serving Architecture: Collaborate with fellow senior engineers to co-own and continuously evolve our real-time ad serving architecture. Utilize your proven track record in managing and advancing large backend systems to set a clear vision and successfully drive your team to achieve it.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with various departments to define requirements and develop a long-term roadmap for our systems. Your ability to bridge technical and business needs will be crucial in aligning our goals and ensuring cohesive progress.
  • Optimize and Innovate Infrastructure: Take the lead in continuously optimizing and streamlining our ad serving infrastructure. Ensure maximum uptime, enhance visibility, and drive cost efficiency to maintain our competitive edge.
  • Engage in High-Impact Technical Discussions: Lead code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical decision-making processes that impact our entire tech stack. Your insights will be instrumental in shaping our technology landscape.
  • Elevate Coding Standards and Best Practices: Help define and elevate our coding standards, development processes, and best practices. Your commitment to excellence will foster a culture of high-quality engineering across the team.
  • Mentor and Inspire Team Members: Lead and mentor other engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration. Your guidance will empower your team to reach new heights and deliver extraordinary results.
  • Shape Our Creative Serving Strategy: Contribute to defining and executing our long-term Creative Serving strategy and roadmap. Your strategic vision will help steer our efforts towards innovative and impactful solutions.

Requirements:

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years in a mission critical technical team lead role.
  • Deep coding ability in Golang, JavaScript and TypeScript are required. 
  • Knowledge of various ad formats (e.g., display, video, native) and technologies like VAST, VPAID, and MRAID.
  • Experience with video compression and streaming via CDNs.
  • Prior experience with mission critical systems. Preferably creative serving in the ad-tech space.
  • Deep knowledge of the ad tech ecosystem, real time bidding (RTB) protocol.
  • Good communicator, empathetic and focused listener.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with Clojure is a plus.

Location:

This role is eligible for full-time remote work in one of our entities: CA or WA State 

Compensation: 

Liftoff offers all employees a full compensation package that includes equity and health/vision/dental benefits associated with your country of residence. Base compensation will vary based on candidate location and experience. The following are our base salary ranges for this role: 

SF Bay Area, NYC, Los Angeles/Orange County: $220,000 - $275,000Seattle/Olympia, San Diego, Santa Barbara: $200,000 - $255,000

Liftoff's Compensation Strategy

Liftoff's compensation strategy includes competitive market rate along with equity and benefits and perks that will give our employees what they need to do their best work. In order to ensure teams are compensated fairly for the work performed, we map out specific levels and take into consideration the cost of labor within each location. Liftoff provides employees a total compensation package of competitive market salaries, equity, health and wellness stipends, medical benefits associated with your country of residence. The base compensation will vary based on location, experience as well as level.
