About the teamThe Data Intelligence & Analytics organization builds the core data platform and internal products that power decision-making across the company. We design and operate large-scale data systems, own the company’s data lake, ingestion infrastructure, and platform tooling, and develop end-to-end applications that transform complex datasets into fast, reliable, business-critical products used daily by go-to-market, product, and engineering teams. Our work sits at the intersection of data platforms, distributed systems, and product development, giving engineers the opportunity to own meaningful problems across the stack and build systems that truly run the business.
About the roleWe are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our Bengaluru team and help scale the next generation of our internal data products. In this role, you will build and operate the systems behind data-driven applications that power teams across the company, including go-to-market, engineering, and product. Because the products we build are initiated and owned by the team, you will be involved end-to-end — from shaping requirements and designing systems to implementation, deployment, and long-term ownership.
You will focus on building scalable, reliable services and application backends, partnering closely with data and full-stack engineers to deliver new features and operate the pipelines and platforms behind our products. Our stack spans multiple languages and technologies, including Go, Scala, and ClickHouse, and continues to evolve. Many of our applications also incorporate strong AI components, giving you opportunities to work with modern AI infrastructure and tools such as vector databases, MCP-based services, and Workers AI.
What you'll do
- Design and implement core features across our internal data applications, spanning backend services, data integrations, and application systems.
- Partner closely with product, data, and engineering stakeholders to shape requirements and design solutions that solve real, high-impact business problems.
- Build and evolve scalable, reliable, and observable systems that power business-critical products used across the company.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of our data and application platform, improving architecture, performance, and developer experience.
- Develop and operate services and pipelines in a multi-language environment (including Go, Scala, and ClickHouse-backed systems).
- Work on modern, AI-enabled components such as vector search, MCP-based services, and AI-powered application features.
- Participate in design reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentorship, helping raise the technical bar across the team.
Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of professional experience building and operating production systems, ideally across backend, data, and application layers.
- Strong proficiency in one or more systems or backend languages such as Go, Java, or Python, with the ability to quickly learn and contribute across a multi-language stack.
- Experience designing and working with data-intensive systems, including strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with relational and/or analytical databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse).
- Proven experience building modern web applications, including JavaScript/TypeScript and React, and collaborating effectively across frontend and backend boundaries.
- Demonstrated ability to design scalable, reliable, and observable systems, with experience influencing architecture and improving platform foundations.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with a track record of working effectively with cross-functional partners and driving projects through ambiguous problem spaces.
- Experience mentoring engineers, leading by example in code and design, and contributing to a culture of technical excellence.
What Makes Cloudflare Special?
We’re not just a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company. We’re a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company with a soul. Fundamental to our mission to help build a better Internet is protecting the free and open Internet.
Project Galileo: Since 2014, we've equipped more than 2,400 journalism and civil society organizations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers--at no cost.
Athenian Project: In 2017, we created the Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration. Since the project, we've provided services to more than 425 local government election websites in 33 states.
1.1.1.1: We released 1.1.1.1 to help fix the foundation of the Internet by building a faster, more secure and privacy-centric public DNS resolver. This is available publicly for everyone to use - it is the first consumer-focused service Cloudflare has ever released. Here’s the deal - we don’t store client IP addresses never, ever. We will continue to abide by our privacy commitment and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.
Sound like something you’d like to be a part of? We’d love to hear from you!
