The technical writing team at Collibra plays a crucial role in this mission by producing clear, precise, and user-focused documentation that enhances the product experience for a diverse range of users. Working closely with product managers, engineers, and UX designers, the team ensures that Collibra’s documentation not only supports product functionality but also improves usability, helping users navigate complex data landscapes with confidence. Collibra's technical writers are highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and dedicated to continuously refining content based on user feedback, making them essential contributors to the overall product ecosystem.

Sr. Technical Writers at Collibra are responsible for

  • Creating Clear, Accurate Documentation: Develops and leads the creation of complex technical documentation, including advanced user guides, product overviews, API references, and release notes. Sets documentation standards and ensures content not only meets style guidelines but also aligns with business objectives and product strategy. Anticipates documentation needs proactively during the product lifecycle.
  • Maintaining Quality and Consistency: Drives content quality across the organization by establishing best practices, performing in-depth reviews, and ensuring documentation supports usability, accessibility, and regulatory compliance (if applicable). Champions consistency in voice, tone, and structure across multiple teams and products.
  • Mentoring and Collaboration: Acts as a thought leader and mentor within the documentation team—guiding junior and mid-level writers through complex projects. Provides strategic peer reviews, elevates writing quality, and fosters strong cross-functional partnerships with product, UX, engineering, and support teams. Influences product design and development by advocating for user documentation needs.
  • User-Centric Feedback Integration: Leads efforts to systematically gather, analyze, and act on customer and field feedback. Partners with UX research and customer success to identify trends, pain points, and opportunities to improve documentation. Uses data and insights to shape documentation strategy, ensuring measurable improvements in user experience and product adoption.
  • Project Management: Takes ownership of complex documentation initiatives that span multiple product areas or releases. Develops and manages project plans, establishes priorities, and aligns deliverables with organizational milestones. Proactively manages shifting priorities, risks, and dependencies, while ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes.

You have

  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in technical writing or related roles, with a proven track record of producing high-impact documentation for complex software products.
  • Expertise in industry-standard tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Git, Markdown, XML/DITA, Confluence), with the ability to evaluate and introduce new tools and workflows to improve team efficiency.
  • Familiarity with Agile and DevOps environments, and the ability to integrate documentation processes seamlessly into iterative development cycles.
  • Strong project leadership abilities, including planning, prioritizing, and delivering documentation projects that span multiple product lines or cross-functional teams.
  • A demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly on complex technologies, with the analytical skills to translate technical details into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences.
  • A keen eye for detail coupled with a strategic perspective—balancing precision with usability, scalability, and long-term content strategy.
  • Experience mentoring other writers, reviewing their work, and contributing to the overall growth and maturity of the documentation function.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Measures of success

  • Within Your First Month: Build foundational knowledge of Collibra’s products, tools, and style guides. Connect with product managers, engineers, and UX designers to understand the product landscape and document key workflows. Review existing documentation to identify immediate improvement areas.
  • Within Your Third Month: Gain a deeper understanding of your assigned product area and its user workflows. Strengthen relationships with stakeholders, actively participate in cross-functional discussions, and make targeted enhancements to documentation based on early feedback and analysis.
  • Within Your Sixth Month: Achieve deep expertise in your product area, contributing to strategic documentation initiatives. Lead usability improvements in documentation, integrate user feedback to refine content, and establish yourself as a go-to resource for product knowledge and technical guidance.

Compensation for this role

The standard base salary range for this position is $128,000 - $160,000 per year. This position is not eligible for additional commission-based compensation. Salary offers are based on a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skills, and location.

In addition to base salary, we offer equity ownership at every level, bonus potential, a Flex Fund monthly stipend, pension/401k plans, and more.
