As a Software Engineer on the Storage team, you’ll collaborate to design and build scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient storage solutions powering Lyft’s core services. You’ll work with a wide range of AWS-native tools and internal platforms to optimize performance and enable self-serve capabilities for data and infrastructure users.

About the team

The Storage team's mission is to empower efficient and cost-effective data management through seamless user experience, while ensuring compliance, modernization, and optimization of Lyft's critical storage infrastructure. We work closely with other Foundational Infrastructure teams (Compute & Networking) to achieve these goals. The storage team owns and leverages AWS technologies such as DynamoDB, MSK, RDS, S3 amongst others to support Lyft’s scale and storage needs. 

What you’ll do:

  • Design, develop and deploy tooling and systems that continually improve the reliability, scalability and efficiency of our storage infrastructure
  • Balance feature development speed and reliability with service-level objectives
  • Operate and improve our infrastructure using industry best practices and tools
  • Participate in design and production readiness reviews, platform management and capacity planning ceremonies with cross-functional teams
  • Document infrastructure operations, process and insights, identify repeatable actions and automate repetitive tasks
  • Participate in our team’s on-call rotation, respond to incidents, and collaborate with other teams to mitigate customer-impacting events
Required Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience working on teams responsible for software development, automation and systems engineering
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages such as Go or Python
  • Hands-on experience operating large-scale infrastructure in a public cloud (preferably AWS)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Familiarity with production level microservice architecture and technology (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.) 
  • Experience identifying and remediating performance bottlenecks in distributed systems
Preferred Experience:
    • Experience operating and scaling production-level storage infrastructure 
    • Experience with AWS storage tools such as  DynamoDB, MSK, RDS, S3 & OpenSearch
    • Prior experience building internal storage abstractions/tools

The expected base pay range for this position in the Toronto area is CAD $108,000 - CAD $135,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
