Our Team: Chewy’s Pet Health team is on a mission to build innovative solutions for our customers and our partner vets, such as our recent launch of Chewy’s first Telehealth service and Compounding Pharmacy. Engineering plays a critical role in defining and implementing our platform roadmap. We take time to understand the “why” before we start shaping up the “how.” We celebrate engineering successes and promote a blameless and continuous learning and improvement engineering culture. We set the bar high for delivering production-ready code by adopting CI/CD (continuous integration & continuous deployment) and DevOps engineering standard processes. Our engineers are encouraged to contribute ideas and code to our own platform and to other partner teams. 

Your Role: 

As a Software Engineer focusing on the backend as part of our Connect with a Vet (CwaV) Team, you will be doing exciting work to deliver an extraordinary experience for our Vet Professionals who provide chat and video consultation services to our Pet Parents. In 2023 the CwaV launched a new platform and is now able to support and customize the entire Vet Professional and Pet Parent experience. Your work will directly impact millions of customers who care for their furry family members every day. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Use algorithms, data structures, and design patterns to produce efficient and performant code 
  • Develop, extend, and debug code within the scope of their team’s existing tools and services 
  • Complete simple design and debug tasks  
  • Solve root causes of and solutions for bugs and production issues  
  • Will contribute to team’s standard processes for logging, testing, instrumentation, metrics, monitors, alerts, practices, and processes 
  • Make meaningful contributions to the team's existing service architecture, data architecture, dev-ops, and infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and public cloud services as part of a software development team 
  • Participate in on-call rotations and operational excellence 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 1+ years of Software Engineering experience 
  • Experience in current web application core technologies: Java, Spring, JUnit 
  • Experience designing and integrating with RESTful APIs 
  • Bachelor's degree (Computer Science or similar technical field of study preferred), or equivalent work experience 

Preferred: 

  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms 
  • Experience with React, Next.js 
  • Experience with Docker or Kubernetes 
  • Experience with Selenium, Cypress, Playwright or similar automated testing tools 
  • Experience developing CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins or similar tool
