The Fulfillment Optimization team builds the platforms that determine how customer orders are fulfilled, optimizing for Wayfair profitability and customer delight. A big part of our work revolves around enhancing and scaling customer-facing platforms that provide fulfillment information on our websites. Throughout this customer journey, we are responsible for maintaining an accurate representation of our dynamic supply chain, predict cartonization, the carton journey, and ultimately surface the information to our customers, suppliers and carriers so all parties can make informed decisions. We do all of this in milliseconds, thousands of times per second.

We are looking for a passionate Back-End Software Engineer for one of our core interfaces teams. The team is responsible for providing fulfillment promise-related information to customers as they shop on Wayfair.com if you want to create, maintain, and improve high-performing APIs that can scale to systems that serve Wayfair customers at scale. 

You will work in a global team, with on-premise and cloud-based deployments in an inclusive environment. 

What you’ll do:

  • Design, develop, operate, and maintain event-driven, cloud enabled applications API interfaces at scale. 
  • Build highly performant and scalable systems with hands-on development, including inception, design, execution, and delivery following good design and coding practices.
  • Collaborate with leads and engineers across multiple teams to solve a wide variety of business and technical problems
  • Obsessively focus on production readiness for the team including testing, monitoring, observability, deployment, documentation and proactive troubleshooting.
  • Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet team and project goals.
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of how your systems impact Wayfair’s customers, field associates, and other systems
  • Help grow other engineers technically by mentoring, pairing, and developing other learning opportunities
  • Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and strengthen the technical expertise of our engineering and product teams

What you bring to the table:

  • 4+ years of experience in backend software engineering, architecting and implementing robust, distributed event-driven applications or microservices 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Track-record of being a hands-on developer efficiently building technically sound systems.
  • Experience building microservices with .NET or Java or any major programming language
  • Experience with Continuous Integration (CI/CD) practices and tools (Buildkite, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Experience architecting solutions leveraging distributed infrastructure (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, etc).
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Aerospike, Redis.
  • Experience leveraging monitoring and logging technologies (e.g. DataDog, Elasticsearch etc).
