Staff Software Engineer - Monetization Engineering 

As a Staff Engineer, you’ll be a key part of the Monetization Engineering team, which helps our customers visualize billing usage & cost, and draw valuable insights from the large amount of billing data within the Fastly platform. Using data transformation and visualization, you’ll work on a collaborative, multi-functional team that includes product designers, product managers, backend engineers, and other UI engineers working together to deliver usable, maintainable, and accessible user interfaces. You'll work across functions to design and create tools and systems that improve visibility and access to handle Fastly’s rapidly-growing family of products.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, maintain, and test broad systems & tools as part of the Billing Platform
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and customers to develop UI experiences that are used at scale
  • Design systems that allow internal teams from across the organization to get the data they need to operate with a focus on stability, performance & scalability.
  • Build tested, maintainable, and usable UI components in our growing UI component library
  • Collaborate with backend engineers and systems (we use Go), including participating in code reviews
  • Build a solid architectural foundation for a growing Monetization Platform
  • Mentor peers and guide UI architecture and practices within and across teams
  • Lead and participate in the building, deployment, and maintenance of the software systems that collect, transport, and make data available to the Fastly organization
  • Make your support available to your team when and where they need it — a time zone compatible with the continental US, where your team will be, is a must for this role
  • Participate in an on-call rotation

 

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years developing and maintaining robust user experiences using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
  • Experience building & testing production applications with React or other JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience surfacing and advocating for customer needs
  • A strong understanding of web performance and accessibility
  • Experience collaborating across groups and functions, including Product and design teams
  • Experience delivering business-impacting software that meets the needs of these disparate groups 
  • An understanding of the tradeoffs and challenges involved in building, operating and maintaining scalable and reliable data pipelines
  • Experience mentoring, guiding, and coaching team members
  • Ability to learn new skills and share what you’ve learned with the broader team

 

We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:

  • Data visualization experience in D3 or other open-source tools
  • Experience with developing & maintaining design systems & React component libraries
  • Experience working with distributed development teams
  • Experience with thoughtful code review to up level more junior developers in a hybrid environment
  • Previous experience working at Fastly

 

Work Hours: 

  • This position will require you to be available during core business hours, and nights and weekends as needed to support the on-call rotation. 

 

Work Location & Travel Requirements: 

This position is a remote role and open to candidates residing in the United States only.

This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.

Salary:

The estimated salary range for this position is $195,720 - $244,645

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
