Staff SDET
We're Celonis, the global leader in Process Mining technology and one of the world's fastest-growing SaaS firms. We believe there is a massive opportunity to unlock productivity by placing data and intelligence at the core of business processes - and for that, we need you to join us.
The Team:As part of the Engineering Product Excellence (EPE) team, you work with people with deep expertise in their fields and build the processes that shape the Celonis product. You’ll work closely with many engineering roles including Developers, SREs, SDETs, and QEs, advocating shift left and building the practices that make performant, high-quality systems part of our DNA.
At Celonis, we live for Customer Value. We want a product that consistently delivers at or above expectations for our customers, and we’re looking for your keen insights to help us deliver on that promise!
The Role:
As a Staff SDET, you will play a leading role bringing test infrastructure, test data and frontend and backend test frameworks on the road, maintaining and improving our existing libraries and tackling challenges on the way. You’ll also help more junior engineers succeed in incorporating testability into our code and write automated tests, training and mentoring them on their technical career path.
You’ll use your understanding of our architecture and software quality needs to determine the right tools to standardize on, and what testing should be performed at what level.
The work you’ll do:
- Guide a technical roadmap to keep test automation current by discussing, innovating, evolving, maintaining, and improving the patterns, tooling, and frameworks
- Act as Technical Lead for a team responsible for ensuring that highly regulated environments are rigorously tested at all required levels
- Conduct planning collaboratively to identify what should and could be automated to ensure sufficient coverage while avoiding duplication of test effort across layers
- Help teams understand the impact to make changes with confidence by ensuring high levels of code coverage, identifying and plugging gaps where necessary, and using complementary techniques such as mutation testing to ensure test effectiveness
- Decouple development dependencies across teams using test doubles for external integrations supplemented with contract testing to enable teams to stay productive when an API they depend on doesn't exist or hasn't yet been completed
- Strive for the fastest feedback possible. Scale test execution by designing tests that adhere to FIRST principles and by using tools and libraries that parallelize execution on multiple runners across different nodes, and/or in separate threads
- Build quality gates into Continuous Delivery pipelines so that automated tests are run often and fail fast to provide earlier feedback on delivery risks
- Coach teams in techniques to improve test effectiveness and code coverage, and write unit and integration tests that serve as examples of best practice
- Collect test metrics and report KPIs to help teams gauge progress towards and alignment with our goal of shift-left continuous testing
The qualifications you need:
- 8+ years experience as an SDET or technical quality engineer on high availability cloud/SaaS platforms
- In-depth knowledge of design, creation, execution, and analysis of various test automation frameworks (frontend & backend) in a web-based cloud environment
- Demonstrate experience in bringing testing to the forefront of the development lifecycle and has worked across various technology stacks from unit testing upwards
- Proficient in more than one programming language including Java, Typescript, JavaScript, or Python
- Proven track record in independent debugging, log interpretation, and root cause analysis of complex systems
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins and has written pipeline as code to build quality gates into stages
- Experience with Docker and the test containers library to programmatically manage the lifecycle of test environments is a plus
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively collaborate interculturally and across functions with diverse fast-paced teams
