Staff Software Engineer (Ticketing & Events)
Want to help us, help others? We’re hiring!
GoFundMe is the world’s most powerful community for good, dedicated to helping people help each other. By uniting individuals and nonprofits in one place, GoFundMe makes it easy and safe for people to ask for help and support causes-for themselves and each other. Together, our community has raised more than $40 billion since 2010.
Join us! We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical vision and execution for the next generation of the GoFundMe Pro Live ticketing and events platform. You will be a senior IC on a newly formed, high-impact team responsible for modernizing our existing product and building an advanced, end-to-end ticketing solution that powers GoFundMe and GoFundMe Pro’s peer-to-peer fundraising experiences.
In this role, you will guide architectural decisions, analyze current workflows, and drive the creation of a brand-new ticketing application—built largely from scratch using a modern TypeScript/JavaScript stack (Angular, Next.js, NestJS, Node.js). While some backend components will evolve, you will have substantial ownership of the core frontend rebuild and integration across the broader GFM ecosystem.
You’ll mentor engineers, partner closely with product and design, and influence platform-wide technical direction, all while contributing hands-on to highly visible, customer-facing features. This is an opportunity to shape a critical component of our fundraising infrastructure, with significant autonomy and impact on the future of peer-to-peer engagement across GoFundMe Pro.
This is a hybrid opportunity. Candidates considered for this role will be located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Job…
- Define and drive the technical roadmap for the new GoFundMe Pro Live ticketing and events platform, ensuring the system scales with product growth, new fundraising features, and increasing business complexity.
- Lead the design and implementation of core system components, including front-end architecture, APIs, event-driven flows (Kafka/SQS/SNS equivalents), webhooks, and cross-application connectivity.
- Champion modern, AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate development and improve code quality across the team.
- Mentor and elevate engineers through design reviews, pair programming, technical coaching, and contributing to team-wide best practices.
- Enhance system reliability and operational excellence by participating in the on-call rotation and leading incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and long-term remediation efforts.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners—Product, Design, QA, and other engineering teams—to deliver a cohesive, high-performing user experience.
You…
- Have 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong full-stack capabilities and a solid foundation in modern JavaScript/TypeScript development.
- Bring deep experience with frontend and application development, particularly in frameworks such as Angular, React/Next.js.
- Have a strong track record of designing and building APIs, webhooks, and event-driven features, and understand how to create scalable, reliable integration points across systems.
- Are experienced with AWS services commonly used in application development (Lambda, SQS/SNS, CloudWatch, API Gateway, etc.) and feel comfortable operating and debugging production workloads.
- Are skilled at diagnosing and preventing performance and scalability issues, using tools such as New Relic, BugSnag, or comparable monitoring and logging platforms.
- Take pride in mentoring and supporting other engineers, and you consistently help raise the technical bar across the team.
Preferred…
- 5+ years of experience working with Node.js and React (or comparable modern frontend frameworks).
- Experience contributing to both greenfield development and the maintenance or refactoring of legacy codebases.
- Background in building high-fidelity UI components using a design system, with hands-on experience in tools like Storybook.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and modern system design principles.
- A consistent track record of writing high-quality automated tests across the stack, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
Bonus…
- Experience with GraphQL, Kotlin, Java, or PHP
- Background in fundraising, donations, or event ticketing
