Your role and your team:

The SCME is responsible for the industrialization of a wide range of new components or new assemblies (that are part of the Lilium Jet) at our external partners, in a New Product Introduction (NPI) project setup, driving all necessary steps and deliverables towards translating the design into initial production capability at the supplier, successful production rate ramp-up and subsequent stable serial production.

In this role, you will act as our Lilium Electronics specialist and will be responsible for our aircraft propulsion electronics, battery pack electronics, and some of the power and avionics equipment.

We are looking for an ambitious and experienced Manufacturing Engineer, working closely with our suppliers as well as with various internal stakeholders. Your goal is to ensure that the components or assemblies in scope can be manufactured efficiently and in quality by our suppliers.

You will be part of a multi-functional supplier team, reporting to the Head of Supply Chain - Systems and Electronics.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • You will enforce Design for Manufacturing / Assembly / Testing with the internal or external design team to enable the goal of high rate, cost effective production and be the voice of supplier - manufacturing for your product group.
  • You will de-risk the production of newly developed components and assemblies by:- Understanding the possible production’s processes- Matching the production processes against our suppliers’ capabilities- Identifying manufacturing risks and capability gaps- Working with designers and suppliers to improve component design, reduce manufacturing risks and close capability gaps
  • You will steer tooling availability, equipment readiness and (special) process qualification at suppliers to enable the initial production of new components and assemblies on time
  • You will understand the in-house assembly process of the product group in scope and translate those needs into manufacturing requirements for our suppliers
  • You will develop, drive and deliver all technical aspects of the industrialization road map with our suppliers, enforcing clear collaboration between the respective parties to secure delivery against business case cost & quality targets.
  • You will lead the interface / collaboration between the Design Organization and the Production Organization of the assigned product group, supporting all relative studies, analyses, tests, trade-offs to enable manufacturing a final product that fulfils the design requirements
  • You will be responsible for the right first-time delivery of each element of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and each manufacturing relevant element of the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) framework, for your product group in scope
  • You will be responsible for the delivery of your products in scope to their First Article Inspection (FAI); as per the standard AS/EN9102.
  • If required, you will develop all New Technology Projects through a gated Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) process, to determine the maturity of each new technology for its inclusion in the next generation of your product.
  • You will work with the supplier to decide on technical solutions to optimize the production and assembly processes towards high volume production lines.

 

Your Profile:

  • You have as minimum an Engineering bachelor’s degree in the field of Electronics-, Mechanical-, Materials-, Mechatronics-, or any other relevant Engineering degree. A master’s degree and or MBA would be advantageous
  • You have 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role in the Aerospace- or Automotive- Industry
  • You have demonstrated expertise in manufacturing process development and process improvement
  • You have experience with electronics/SMT assembly manufacturing processes and standards, as well as cable and harness assembly
  • You have experience in Electronics manufacturing test tools (AOI, ICT, EOLT)
  • Having experience with Mechanical parts manufacturing processes; especially for Avionics / Electronics’ boxes will be very advantageous
  • You will have demonstratable capabilities in influencing design through Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Testing (DFT) and RCCA activities.
  • You will have demonstrated experience in the development of new electronic boxes or Mechanical products from initial concept to market entry.
  • You will have knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspection capabilities and requirements relevant to Electronics.
  • Technical understanding of Electrical Drawings / Mechanical Drawings & Requirements, to enable your position as the key technical interface between Design, Production and the Supplier.
  • You have demonstrable experience of operating alone in supplier facilities, with strong communication skills that support the working practices of local management to technical personnel.
  • Experience of implementing PPAP/APQP processes and standards.
  • You have a mindset to take evaluated risks in decision making.
  • You have willingness to regularly travel across Europe as well as on occasions worldwide for supplier visits 
  • You speak fluent English. German or Spanish would be a plus.
