The role

The People team at GoCardless is on a mission to grow an inclusive, high performance culture; to support our ambitious business plans, and People Partnering team, we’re looking for an experienced and motivated People Advisor to join us. 

The role will report into our VP, Partnering, Talent Development & Inclusion and will work closely with People Partners and people managers, providing advice and counsel on performance management, team dynamics and employee relations matters. The People Advisor will also work closely within the team with People Operations and Talent Acquisition to identify improvement opportunities and implement policies or redesign processes to support a more efficient and effective manager or employee experience. 

We’re looking for someone who will demonstrate a true passion for the teams they support, who has good people instincts to navigate sensitive issues and who is also driven by a desire to influence through data or insights. The role presents a real opportunity to grow people partnering skills, coach managers and drive process change across a global business.

What excites you 

  • Being a trusted advisor by using professional credibility and strong relationships to influence HR best practices aligned with GoCardless values
  • Being the first point of contact and specialist advisor for all employee relations issues including performance improvement plans, advising on grievances and disciplinary meetings
  • Resolving and managing generalist type queries for managers and employees (e.g. probationary reviews, policy advice, sickness absence, career development)
  • Analysing and interpreting data to identify themes, trends and risks in ER cases or through the employee lifecycle and recommend solutions 
  • Acting as a change-agent by understanding where team processes can be simplified or revised to promote more efficiency or manager self-service
  • Assist in driving communication and sharing of best practices across the people team to facilitate continuous improvement
  • You’ll mainly cover the UK but this is a global role that will be advising and supporting employees in the US, Australia, France and Latvia. 

What excites us  

  • Solid employee relations experience at advisory or manager level - in a fast-paced, changing or progressive environment
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law in the UK plus a baseline understanding for our other locations with a desire to continually broaden this knowledge
  • Coaching skills to guide and support managers through often challenging and emotive situations
  • A customer service mindset, with a relentless focus on the employee experience and drive to continually improve how we do things
  • Confidence to proficiently use HR data to take a holistic view of emerging trends in order to pre-empt future challenges 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at once and achieve against tight deadlines
  • Strong influencing and communication skills in order to collaborate, build relationships and manage stakeholders
  • Creative, proactive problem solver who deals effectively with change and ambiguity
