Central Data & Science is a collection of teams that work across the business to deliver insights about current performance and forecast future performance, as well as provide key platforms that enable the organisation to deliver experiments, models and analytics at scale. These teams rely on many external vendors to provide services, platforms and data to enable them to build their products. 

About the Role

As the Vendor Manager, you will own contractual, commercial and operational working relationships with a network of vendors within Data & Science. You will work with the vendors to ensure that the products and services that they provide are fit for purpose, and enable the business’s needs. You’ll also set the vendor strategy, ensuring that the vendors we are using are the best fit for the requirements, along with ensuring that we have a sustainable long-term plan to enable teams to deliver on their roadmaps. 

We are looking for a proactive person who loves to solve complex problems, works cross-functionally and can communicate technical concepts in simple terms.

This is a hybrid role requiring three days a week in our London office in Cannon Street. You will report into the Technical Programme Manager for Data & Science.

What you’ll do

  • Define and own the vendor strategy, ensuring the supplier landscape is dimensioned according to business requirements both now and in the future
  • Work with a mix of stakeholders to understand their business questions, translate these into data requirements and find the right vendors to service them
  • Be the primary point of contact for global teams and markets, forming the interface between the business and all providers
  • Work closely with our procurement, legal compliance and information security teams to drive negotiations and velocity 
  • Work with Finance teams to understand budgets and plan the vendor roadmap 
  • Track, analyse and manage vendor performance, working with providers to drive issues to resolution and make sure all SLAs are met or surpassed 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and legal requirements, including internal policies
  • Maintain a high level of communication with multiple sets of stakeholders to keep the business informed 

What you’ll need

  • Vendor or supplier Management or similar account management experience with commercial partners within IT, Tech or Data Licensing 
  • Highly results-focused, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to influence in a complex matrix environment
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Adept at understanding complex business questions and translating these into data requirements  
  • Strong stakeholder management skills; ability to strategically align and get buy-ins from business partners

 Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Data (whether procurement of data, or data platforms and services)
  • Previously worked with data teams
  • Experience working in a tech company, consultancy or strategic function
