Chewy is seeking an Associate Director, Safety and Security Programs to support the Chewy Fulfillment Core and Corporate teams. This role will lead to the development and deployment of a Global Command Center, Injury Prevention and Ergonomics, Food Safety, and Guardforce programs for Chewy. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing multiple high-level programs supporting the safety and security of the Chewy Fulfillment Core and Corporate teams. This includes leading a core team focused on emergency management, ergonomics, food safety, program development, and managing third-party guardforce. In addition, the role will oversee all aspects of Command Center operations and Incident Management processes partnering with site operations, internal stakeholder teams, and senior leadership. This role requires an experienced people leader with a health and safety background in general industry safety, wellness, ergonomic, and emergency disaster management programs. As well as ability to work with autonomy, develop positive relationships with third-parties to proactively manage contracts, and interact with local officials/regulatory agencies.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and own the Chewy Global Command Center program that supports Chewy Fulfillment Core & Corporate teams.
  • Develop programs, utilize technology, and guide leadership on incident, emergency, and disaster management operational response.
  • Provide best practices to reduce hazards and mitigate impact from natural and human-made disasters. 
  • Lead a core team who manages communication during major incidents across Chewy leadership and internal stakeholder creating mechanisms for notification, opening virtual Emergency Operations Centers (EOC), collection of after-action report, and follow up on actions identified to continuously improve safety and security programs.
  • Lead a core team developing Injury Prevention and Ergonomic programs for both Chewy Fulfillment Core & Corporate teams focused on soft tissue injury reduction, hazard analysis, and proactive programs to increase the wellness of Chewtopians.  
  • Lead a core team of Food Safety professionals developing and maintaining food safety programs driving compliance and safety for our customers.
  • Own third-party guardforce oversight, solicit feedback from site leadership on guardforce, and drive compliance to Chewy’s Safety and Security programs.
  • Partner with Procurement to performance manage the guardforce through their vendor leadership and evaluate compliance to contract obligations.
  • Develop and deliver on business objectives, KPIs, and team goals to drive safety and security performance across Chewy Fulfillment Core & Corporate teams.
  • Develop data driven initiatives supporting Chewy’s short and long-term strategies.
  • Report into the Sr. Director, Safety & Loss Prevention partnering with HR, Finance, and Operations  to execute Chewy’s strategies focused on company vision, people, process, and technology.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (EHS, Emergency Management, Loss Prevention, or Business Management/Operations) or equivalent work experience, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7 + years of experience in EHS, Emergency Management, Loss Prevention/Security, or Operations support.
  • Experience in emergency disaster operations or large-scale incident management including natural disasters, industrial incidents, and structure fires.
  • FEMA National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) certifications preferred (ICS-100, IS-700, etc…).
  • Certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED required, Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Fire Fighter or related emergency response experience preferred.
  • Experience utilizing current and future technology integrating EHS and GIS for improved incident management response.
  • Strong people leader with 5-10 years of experience developing a diverse and dispersed team of health and safety professionals.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, being able to communication across internal stakeholders and with leadership.
  • Highly collaborative team player who can build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including third-party vendors.
  • Experience interacting and driving partnership with emergency agencies, local authorities, and regulatory agencies at multiple levels.
  • Capable of delivering high quality work and data driven initiatives on time with the ability to manage multiple different projects or programs simultaneously.
  • Ability to be flexible, work through ambiguity, succeed in a fast pace environment while having the foresight to build mechanisms and develop strategies. Willing to learn new skills and implement new technologies across Chewy.
  • Experience with Gensuite, Avetta, Smartsheets, Microsoft Office, Google platforms, and other workspace software.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 30%.
