Snapshot

We are seeking an extraordinary corporate communications professional to help tell the story of Google DeepMind’s progress on its mission to build AI responsibly to benefit humanity. This candidate will work across executive communications - including executive media engagement and thought leadership - as well as policy communications and crisis communications, working closely with other communications and external engagement teams and senior leaders across the organisation. In this role, you will also be responsible for planning, pitching and delivering proactive media opportunities (interviews, feature stories, podcasts etc.) to communicate Google DeepMind’s work and impact to audiences around the world.

The Role

We’re looking for a curious & engaged Corporate Communications Manager to bring their broad skillset to bear in one of the world’s most interesting and innovative organisations.

Key responsibilities:
  • Engage regularly with media (including print and broadcast, as well as new and emerging media) and other stakeholders, building relationships and educating them about Google DeepMind and our work, identifying proactive communications opportunities to tell the Google DeepMind story.
  • Be the primary lead on corporate communications matters - including financial disclosures, corporate news, issues and crisis - working collaboratively with other functions including Legal, Security and HR.
  • Work with the Executive Communications team to develop and deliver annual media engagement and speakership plans for senior leaders, including performing outreach and research to identify the most aligned events, media opportunities and speaking platforms. 
  • Advise on, draft, and execute executive communications, to include talking points, media briefings, reactive FAQs, social media content, presentations and speechwriting.
  • Contribute to the rollout and scaling of media and speaker training programmes to benefit spokespeople across the organisation.
  • Develop creative approaches to a range of communications challenges. Seek out and/or create opportunities to further Google DeepMind’s executive thought leadership platform on public policy issues in the UK and EMEA. This includes collaborating with colleagues in Policy Communications on media opportunities, speaking engagements, and content development.
  • Contribute to strategies for engaging with and educating policymakers around issues important to Google DeepMind, working in collaboration with the Policy & Public Engagement team.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues of all seniority across the organisation, acting as a trusted communications advisor.
  • Stay up-to-date and curious on relevant industry, economic, social, and governmental topics and issues.
About You

In order to set you up for success, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • A background in technology communications, with a focus on AI technologies.
  • Previous in-house corporate communications experience. Experience working in highly matrixed large corporate environments and start ups is a bonus.
  • Experience driving crisis comms programs, serving as a communications counsellor on company, operational or reputational issues.
  • An established network of relevant media contacts, influencers and other stakeholders and an awareness of the digital influencer landscape (with a particular focus on AI/innovation).
  • Experience driving top tier major feature stories across both print and broadcast media.
  • Hands-on experience driving policy-focused campaigns.
  • Demonstrable success planning and executing proactive media opportunities and campaigns, and the ability to prioritise and manage several of these simultaneously.
  • Strong writing skills and an ability to translate the complex into simple, clear and intuitive communications.
  • Experience working closely with executive leadership and their teams.
  • Passionately up-to-date on emerging and future trends in AI.
