Engineering Director, Site Lead - Poland

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Director to lead our Poland site.  

As the Engineering Director and Site Lead, you will play a pivotal role in leading product development teams who are responsible for building Sumo’s platform and products in Monitoring, Troubleshooting and Security. Additionally, you will serve as the local site lead, ensuring a seamless blend of our company culture with local influences. You will be responsible for budget planning, resource allocation, team building and talent retention.

What you will do:

  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead a team of Engineering Managers and their respective teams, fostering a collaborative and Innovative work environment. Build, mentor and grow a team of exceptional engineers, adept at building extremely large-scale machine data analytics products.  
  • Technical Strategy and Execution: Collaborate with the global leadership to define and execute the technical strategy. Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality, scalable and secure SaaS solutions in alignment with business objectives. Be the engineering voice to stakeholders and customers.
  • Site Leadership: Be the face of the company at the Poland location, maintaining a strong local presence. Drive initiatives to integrate company culture, fostering a sense of unity and global community. Ensure that the local site operations are aligned to company objectives and initiatives. 
  • Budget and Resource Planning: Develop and manage the site’s annual budget, ensuring cost efficiency and resource optimization. Identify cost-saving opportunities and improvements in resource allocation. 
  • Talent Acquisition and Retention: Collaborate with the HR team to recruit top engineering talent in the local job market. Implement strategies to retain and motivate top-performing engineers. Create a supportive and inclusive work environment to boost employee engagement. 
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate communication and knowledge-sharing between all global locations and the headquarters. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Design, QE and Operations, to ensure seamless product development and delivery. 

What you will have: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in software engineering and management, with a proven track record of leadership.
  • Extensive experience in SaaS development, preferably in AWS, with a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience developing large scale data processing systems.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset. 
  • Strong business acumen and budget management skills.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Demonstrated success in talent acquisition, retention, and team development.
