This role sits within the People & Culture team which works together to maintain, optimise, and cultivate our culture to create the best environment in the world for advancing AI research. Specifically you would be in the Reward & Recognition team, currently a team of three based in London, but expanding into North America. You will be managed by the Co-Director of People & Culture, and manage a Reward Partner in the US, which we are also currently hiring for.

The Role

As the Head of Reward and Recognition for North America, you’ll have responsibility for shaping and delivering on our strategy in North America, (particularly in Mountain View, California) with a focus of working closely with our business leaders and Talent Acquisition teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional leadership and guidance on reward and recognition to key stakeholders. 
  • Implement reward and recognition frameworks for the full organisational structure at Google DeepMind.
  • Lead reward projects from design through execution, including modelling, project planning, communicating, and training in partnership with your direct team and others across the business. 
  • Develop relationships within and outside Google DeepMind to keep us at the forefront of the reward and recognition field.
  • Improve reward and recognition capability amongst managers and P&C partners through training, coaching, partnership and development of tools and processes.
  • Engage with our Talent Acquisition team and People & Culture Partners to continue to align our reward approach with our broader talent agenda.
  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition team to enable our hiring strategy while maintaining good governance.
  • Build out and use compensation metrics, reports, and tools to enable insight-led forecasts and decisions.
  • Look to the future, and continuously evaluate compensation programs, innovating and recommending changes to improve the effectiveness of our investment in total rewards.
  • Lead and manage the Reward & Recognition Partner (being hired)
About You

In order to set you up for success in this role,  we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Experienced in senior stakeholder management and relationship building, alongside instilling trust and creating understanding.
  • Experience designing reward and recognition strategies and delivering on them.
  • Highly organised, with experience of managing a team’s workload across an array of activity and projects and managing that with competing priorities from the business.
  • Experience working on reward and recognition in a tech company, preferably with a machine learning focus.
  • Expert in competitive talent environment in California and US regulations.
  • Experience of working across the talent agenda, specifically in the role that reward and recognition can play to achieve competitive advantage.
  • Experience of working on complex offers and balancing tensions between hiring needs and longer-term compensation implications.
  • Ability to work  autonomously and make decisions under time pressure.
  • Ability to assimilate ambiguous information from a wide variety of sources to provide meaningful and timely insights to inform decisions, and successfully communicate these findings.
  • Ability to  run with a brief, deal with ambiguity and deliver solutions that are right for the business.
  • When something you are working on changes, you adapt comfortably with a readiness to learn.
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets, with strong analytical skills.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $203,000 - $302,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
