Senior Manager - Global Grocery Strategy

At Deliveroo, we are transforming the way people think about food.

When you first think about Deliveroo, you probably think of getting great food to your home in minutes. Awesome right? But behind the scenes is the real story. This story is one of high growth, huge challenges and an enormous opportunity ahead of us - a story we would love you to help us shape.

We want to be the definitive food company - the app you go to any time you have a hunger pang. We are providing people with limitless access to different cuisines, restaurants and shops, turning cooking from a chore to a choice, and giving people the freedom to eat what they want, when they want, where they want.

We now operate in 13 markets, with over 100,000 riders who deliver orders from 160,000 restaurants and 13,000 grocery partners in over 500 towns and cities worldwide.

The Team

The Global Grocery Strategy & Analytics team reports into the VP of Global Grocery & Retail and the Deliveroo COO. We are responsible for setting the strategy and leveraging the best that Deliveroo has to offer to win in the new and highly competitive on-demand grocery market. The work is project-based; starting from initial strategic questions, we work through data to drive the right decisions before setting the implementation in action. As such the team is a great balance between high-impact strategic questions and seeing the impact of your decisions. The culture within the grocery team is informal, fast-paced and entrepreneurial. Given the growth of the business and the senior stakeholder exposure, progression in the team can be fast.

The Role

In this role you'll be finding solutions to some of the toughest and most exciting questions we must answer at Deliveroo. We are looking for a critical thinker to conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to drive our business decisions. You will be scoping and owning projects end to end and making strategic recommendations to the VP of Grocery & Retail and the COO. You will also be responsible for operationalising new initiatives and enacting changes to how we operate in a rapidly evolving landscape. Questions you will answer might include:

  • What is the opportunity size for a potential new product feature? (e.g. allowing customers to add a grocery order to their restaurant order)
  • What matters most to customers when deciding between online grocery options? (e.g. price, speed, service, product range)
  • How best can we support a particular market in delivering their growth targets?

Qualities We're Looking For

  • DECISIVE AND INFLUENTIAL: you should thrive in a fast-paced environment, and be comfortable with making quick yet calculated decisions, even in times of ambiguity. You are comfortable making recommendations and communicating them across the business persuasively. More importantly, you must have a strong desire to galvanise action within Deliveroo.
  • ANALYTICAL AND COLLABORATIVE: there will be some number-crunching involved, but your role will also be about stepping back – you'll need to see the bigger picture and understand how your insights are aligned with the direction the business is heading in. You should also be proactive in gathering input from relevant team members to create pragmatic solutions.
  • STRUCTURED: you will be managing multiple projects and competing priorities at the same time. From scoping a problem / planning a project, to communicating your recommendations in a concise manner, to managing the initial stages of rollout, you will need to be methodical and rigorous in your approach.

Profile

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has at least 3-7 years of experience in consulting, banking or a strategy-related function
  • Can prioritise effectively while leading multiple projects concurrently and independently
  • Is adept at conducting 80/20 analysis, drawing out business insights from that analysis and presenting findings and recommendations persuasively
  • Has an entrepreneurial mindset and is willing to roll their sleeves up and get stuck into building the future of on-demand grocery

Requirements

  • Experience as a Manager (or equivalent) in a top-tier consultancy, investment bank or in the strategy function of a top-tier corporate
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence others
  • Strong quantitative (excel) and qualitative (slides, docs) toolkit
  • London-based with a minimum of three days required in the office

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of core SQL
  • Experience in a start-up environment (or as an entrepreneur)
  • MBA

Benefits and Diversity

At Deliveroo we know that people are the heart of the business and we prioritise their welfare. We offer a wide range of competitive benefits in areas including health, family, finance, community, convenience, growth, time away and relocation.

We believe a great workplace is one that represents the world we live in and how beautifully diverse it can be. That means we have no judgement when it comes to any one of the things that make you who you are - your gender, race, sexuality, religion or a secret aversion to coriander. All you need is a passion for (most) food and a desire to be part of one of the fastest growing companies in an incredibly exciting space.
