Job Description: 

The Senior Manager of Accounting is a member of the Accounting team within US Finance and is responsible for Inventory Accounting for Factor, one of our highest growth brands. The position reports to the Director of Inventory & Logistics Accounting and will manage a small team of 1-2 accountants.  This is a critical role to our business and is a roll up your sleeves type of role, where you should genuinely enjoy analyzing data, streamlining processes, workpapers and calculations, crunching numbers, and doing whatever it takes to ensure that our accounting function runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

You will …
  • Act as a subject matter expert on costing and inventory treatment of accounting transactions and related financial reporting requirements, explore and offer solutions and best practices.
  • Manage the inventory monthly close function for Factor and other brands within Hello Fresh, ensuring completeness and accuracy of accounting records, and working collaboratively with your team to meet a strict timeline.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the available data and data sources and provide analysis of the potential risks and mitigations for each. 
  • Review inventory valuation, purchase accruals and assist month-end close and financial reporting for inventory accounts.  
  • Support accounting and reporting requirements including internal and external audit, period closing and explanation of variances to budget, management reporting and prior periods. Ensure audit preparedness and compliance. Support external audit requirements related to specific areas of responsibility. 
  • Maintain relationships within inventory accounting team and other business partners including working closely with the FP&A and Operational functions to increase transparency on business performance and support cost control. 
  • Assist in special projects or requested cost analysis.
  • Own assigned month-end close processes and key controls, review account reconciliations and  record journal entries and improve supporting documentation.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with the AP team, Logistics, and Warehouse personnel to ensure inventory processes and counts are complete and accurate, which may require occasional travel.
  • Develop, prepare, and present financial analyses that include accurate and reliable information to provide direction in strategic decisions.
  • Develop and document process improvements that support strong fiscal management and reporting.
  • Conduct research and provide technical guidance on areas of responsibility if requested.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory irregularities, providing solutions and guidance.
  • Review the work of staff accountants and mentor them in their area of responsibility.
  • Devise proposals to improve accounting processes in order to shorten time to close, improve controls and ensure scalability as the business grows.
  • Provide additional ad hoc reports and analyses as needed.

Your qualities...

  • Must have consumer products/manufacturing experience with standard costing.
  • Data driven and curious to find and develop better practices.
  • Thorough understanding of supply chain, receiving, inventory flow, operations process, and cost accounting principles.
  • Able to work comfortably under pressure and work towards tight deadlines.
  • A strong sense of ownership and attention to detail.
  • Drive to continuously improve and build processes.
  • Highly advanced Excel and data organization skills
  • Ability to resolve escalated issues from the team.
At a minimum, you have...
  • >6+ years of combined experience in public accounting and corporate accounting functions, CPA or similar certification is required.
  • Managing experience
  • Substantive quantitative skills and proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong technical accounting background; knowledge of IFRS is a strong plus.
  • Experience in fast-growth environments and/or inventory-based E-Commerce businesses preferred.
