Airbnb's Community Support Platform (CSP) builds world-class software tools and products for our global organization of Community Support agents. Your work on CSP will empower our support agents and help ensure our guests and hosts have an amazing experience on Airbnb 24/7 and 365 days a year.

Community Support Platform (CSP) is responsible for the technology, architecture, data, and product solutions that power Airbnb's global community support operations. The products and solutions we build are a key driver of enabling Airbnb's core business, which supports our customers, front line agents, and the operations teams. As a member of CSP, you will have an opportunity to impact every person who travels or hosts on Airbnb.

Within CSP, the Core Service Experience team focuses on the software services and products used daily by our global team of 15,000+ support agents to service the millions of guests and hosts who contact us monthly.

This is an opportunity to be part of a product and engineering team that creates, builds, and owns a critical set of applications and tools that empower Airbnb's Global Community Support operations. You will have the opportunity to work with a broad range of people around the world.

The Difference You Will Make:

As a Senior Backend Engineer, your expertise will be crucial in developing and evolving the internal facing tools and platforms owned by CSP. You will primarily work closely with a team of cross-platform engineers with collective expertise in web and backend engineering to define and shape the future of the customer support platform used to service the hundreds of millions of Airbnb guests and hosts.

A Typical Day: 

  • Work closely with other engineers, cross-functional partners (PM, design, data science, ML), and other engineering teams owning various functional surfaces (messaging, reservations, payments, third party, and more) across the company. 
  • Contribute across the team’s surface areas to build new functionality while improving existing functionality to help make our team’s vision, and that of our broader org, a reality. 
  • Partner with Airbnb product teams to understand product pain points, pilot proposed solutions, and drive adoption of paved path tooling and frameworks
  • Participate in all phases of software development including architecture/design, implementation, and testing.
  • Support teammates in enabling code quality, operational excellence, and shared learning

Your Expertise:

  • 5+ years of experience in a hands-on backend software engineering role
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience 
  • Extensive experience working with and developing backend APIs on both stateful and stateless services
  • Expertise with databases and other forms of stateful storage (SQL, redis, pubsub, etc.)
  • Expertise with observability, monitoring, and alerting tooling and concepts
  • Experience working with build/CI systems
  • Solid understanding of networking, system performance, caching, client storage solutions, and asynchronous programming
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work well within engineering organization and across functions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate via code reviews and architecture discussions while motivated to improve your team's’ productivity
  • Personal motivation to grow and learn new technologies as needed to support the needs of the team, org, and company
  • [Bonus] Experience with full-stack development
  • [Bonus] Experience working on an Infrastructure or Platform team supporting a medium to large engineering organization

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. How We'll Take Care of You:

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.  

Pay Range$185,000—$223,000 USD
