Fastly’s edge cloud platform enables customers to create great digital experiences quickly, securely, and reliably by processing, serving, and securing our customers’ applications as close to their end-users as possible — at the edge of the Internet. The platform is designed to take advantage of the modern internet, to be programmable, and to support agile software development. Fastly’s customers include many of the world’s most prominent companies, including Vimeo, Pinterest, The New York Times, and GitHub.

We're building a more trustworthy Internet. Come join us.

The Product Enablement team is a productive team of multi-functional engineers, building features that engage users on the setup, configuration, and maintenance of their Fastly services and related products. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead product-advancing areas including service configuration, purging, edge dictionaries, and Compute. You will find yourself proposing, building, and documenting features, APIs, and UI components. You will contribute to both our codebases and culture and have a positive impact on your peers’ growth through code reviews, feedback on technical design documentation, pair programming, and mentorship. On the backend, we work with Ruby. On the frontend, we are gradually migrating from Ember to React, so you’ll build user interfaces using both frameworks. You will also be an active contributor to the evolution of our core services, with attention to collaboratively designing data and service boundaries that are scalable and fault tolerant.

What You’ll Do:
  • Design, develop, maintain, and test user facing features, APIs, and UI components across Fastly core services and related products
  • Take ownership of features from start to finish, facilitating review and discussion with peers and partners, and ensuring features as implemented meet product requirements
  • Work collaboratively with customer support, solutions, product, and sales teams to make tomorrow's customer experience even more secure and intuitive than today's
  • Partner with your engineering leaders to build out and execute on everything from project design to engineering standards
  • Clearly communicate upward and outward to set and adjust expectations with your manager and partners
  • Collaborate with your teammates through code and design reviews and coach and mentor junior teammates
  • We work collaboratively as a team, both synchronously and asynchronously, however the nature of this role requires a time zone compatible with the continental US
  • Join our UI on-call rotation to ensure our customers have the best possible user experience
What We’re Looking For:
  • A long track record designing secure and user-friendly applications - at least 7 years of coding experience
  • Experience writing elegant and maintainable backend code with Ruby
  • Experience developing with React and TypeScript
  • A strong understanding of web performance and accessibility
  • Experience building products at scale that actively take customer feedback into account
  • Experience mentoring, guiding, and coaching team members and a passion for learning and sharing what you’ve learned with others

We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:

  • Ember.js
  • Microfrontend architecture
  • Content Delivery Networks and Fastly’s Compute platform
