The Core Systems team is looking for a Staff Engineer with experience and interest in performance and distributed systems. Fastly’s TLS team is responsible for securely storing and delivering millions of TLS certificates across a global network with low latency and supporting the protocol terminators that consume them. In addition, we develop new features on both the backend side and on the edge in the TLS (and QUIC!) terminator.

Your focus will be on our open source HTTP server H2O with significant cross collaboration as it’s a shared project. The work will be a mix between developing new features, optimizing performance and ensuring the continued stability of the systems.q

What You'll Do:

  • Design and build new features in a critical component of Fastly’s stack
  • Collaborate across technology stacks on system design
  • Identify race conditions, concurrency optimizations and do performance analysis
  • Participate in on-call rotations

What We're Looking For: 

  • You have at least 3 years of production experience with coding in Rust or C , and proficiency in the other language, to implement scalable, low latency systems
  • You have strong industry experience with Web/Internet protocols such as HTTP, TLS, DNS, TCP/IP, UDP, QUIC
  • Hands-on experience in building distributed infrastructure and maintaining it over time
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux as a development environment: git, compilers

We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these: 

  • Comfortable working in a geographically distributed team and highly available environments
  • Proficient in Go, perl, or similar high level languages

Work Hours:

  • This position will require you to be available during core business hours.

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home. 

Salary: 

The estimated salary range for this position is $181,220 to $226,520.

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
